Do you wonder what your students think of your ICON site? Do you wish you had insider knowledge on how to create a student-friendly site?  Join the student instructional technology assistants (SITA) group from 2 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, or 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, April 30, to learn What Your Students Wish You Would Do in ICON. 

 Event: Assessing Assessment 

Join Tim Sommers, a fourth-year graduate student in the Department of Philosophy and graduate teaching fellow, for his upcoming workshop (asynchronous via ICON),  Assessing Assessment: Evidence-Based Grading and Nontraditional Approaches to Grading. Learn about alternative approaches to assessment, through interviews with ungrading experts, and engage in a dialogue about the potential use of nontraditional approaches.

Interested in Assessment? Join a New FLC

The Center for Teaching invites faculty members to join our cross-disciplinary faculty learning community (FLC): Assessing Assessment for Equity and Student Motivation, launching in June 2021. Members will explore strategies for ensuring equity in assessment and helping students move away from grade-centered motivations. Complete a brief application by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, May 2. New Umbrella IRB Supports Learning Analytics Research

Research & Analytics now offers an umbrella IRB to support UI faculty members who are interested in exploring the role and impact of analytics on teaching and learning. Umbrella IRBs accelerate research by offering a faster process for IRB application and delivering de-identified data to answer research questions. 

Save the Date: Fall 2021 New TA Orientation 

The Center for Teaching’s 2021 New TA Orientation will convene virtually on Thursday, Aug. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon. This event helps new TAs prepare for the first week of classes and beyond. It also offers seasoned TAs an opportunity to gain paid professional experience as disciplinary workshop facilitators. Apply to be a facilitator by Friday, May 14.
