Reminders

Spring 2021 Virtual Drop-In Hours

Graduation Employment Surveys

The 2021 Graduate Employment Survey is available to all 3L’s! The American Bar Association requires law schools to provide employment information as part of the accreditation process, making it crucial that we have accurate employment information. All individual identifying information is confidential and not shared outside the law school. The GES also gives our office your ongoing contact information so that we can share relevant job opportunities with you after graduation.

To complete the survey:

  • Log in to Symplicity
  • Click on the words "Graduate Employment Survey.” It is the first link in red font under “shortcuts,” along the right-hand side of your home screen.
  • Fill in the missing information (your screen may refresh with the addition of new information)
  • Click the "Save Changes" button when you have completed the survey

Common Errors

  • Timing of offer: before or after graduation
    • This question is asking when you accepted your offer, not your start date. If you accept your offer on May 10th and graduate May 14th you select before graduation.
  • Start date deferred
    • This is only to be selected if you start your job after March 15, 2022 (so the spring AFTER you already graduated).
  • “I have not received an offer and should not fill out the GES.”
    • Fill the survey out anyway! It is a useful tool to help the Career Services Office better serve you.

If you have any questions about the GES please reach out to Nathan Davis at nathan-c-davis@uiowa.edu.

Opportunities of the Week

Loyola

Loyola Patent Law Interview Program

Loyola University Chicago School of Law is hosting the 2021 Patent Law Interview Program on Thursday and Friday, July 22-23.  This nationwide interview program targets patent law employers and rising 2L and 3L students. The 2021 Patent Law Interview Program will be a fully virtual job fair.

Last year roughly 150 employers, 190 law schools, and 1,300 law students from across the country participated in the program.  The program is entirely pre-selected, which means that students submit application materials to apply to interviews with the employers they are interested in, and employers then review their materials and select the students they wish to interview at the program.  Last year, approximately half of the participating students were selected for interviews.

Students with undergraduate or graduate degrees in engineering or a technical science should consider registering for the program.  You do not need to be patent bar eligible to register, although the vast majority of employers participating in the program are seeking patent bar eligible students.

For more information on the program, please refer to the Loyola Patent Program website at: https://www.luc.edu/law/currentstudents/careerservices/patentprogram/.

Online student registration for this year’s Patent Law Interview Program close on Friday, March 19. Students can register at: https://epay.luc.edu/C20996_ustores/web/store_main.jsp?STOREID=311&SINGLESTORE=true

Summer Associate 2021

Straus & Boies, LLP, a boutique law firm specializing in antitrust and consumer protection law located in Fairfax, VA, is looking for candidates to join them as full-time Summer Associates beginning in May 2021.

At Straus & Boies, we strive to provide our Summer Associates with firsthand knowledge of what life as a lawyer is like both in our Firm and in our areas of practice.
