Summer 2021 Career Fairs & Programs 

30th Annual Delaware Diversity Job Fair (DDJF)

The DDJF was founded by a consortium of Delaware law firm, corporate, and public sector/interest legal employers committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Delaware bar by encouraging interested law students to explore summer and full-time opportunities to work in Delaware. The DDJF is pleased to announce that there are currently 14 Delaware employers interviewing this summer.

The DDJF is an invitation-only event limited to rising 2L/3LED (2023) and rising 3L/4LED (2022) students interested in summer or full-time employment opportunities with law firm, government, and/or public sector/interest employers in Delaware. Southeastern IP Job Fair

As we get closer to the student registration deadline, Monday, May 10, 2021, we at SIPJF wanted to provide you more information on employers. 
Thomas Horstemeyer (Atlanta) and Flaster Greenberg (Philadelphia) are hiring for non 2L summer positions and both require patent bar eligibility. 
The following firms will consider non-patent bar eligible candidates: Alston & Bird, Baker Hostetler, Eversheds Sutherland, Jones Day, Kilpatrick Townsend, Troutman Pepper, and Womble Bond Dickinson.

Regarding location, AT&T is only hiring for Atlanta, Banner Witcoff is Chicago and D.C., Dority & Manning is Greenville, S.C., and Seattle, Eversheds Sutherland is Atlanta, Flaster Greenberg is Philadelphia, K&L Gates is Chicago, L.A., Seattle, Pittsburgh, and Boston, Kramer Levin is New York, Meunier Carlin & Curfman is Atlanta, and Thomas Horstemeyer is Atlanta. As you get ready to graduate, it’s time to load up on Iowa Law gear! What’s better than Iowa Law gear? FREE Iowa Law gear! Each week, the Career Services Office is holding a raffle for a $25 gift certificate to the ISBA Bookstore. All you have to do to be in the raffle is to complete your Graduate Employment Survey! If you have already completed your Survey, you don’t have to take any additional steps. You should complete your survey even if you do not yet have post-graduate employment secured! You can find the Survey by logging into Symplicity and clicking the link in red font under “shortcuts” on the right-hand side of the homepage. L3 The Public Interest Law AwardDeadline May 5, 2021

The Public Interest Law Award was established in 1988 by the classes of 1987 and 1988 to honor and support law school graduates who choose to enter the field of public interest law. Eligible recipients must have more than $5,000 in student loan debt and demonstrate the procurement of employment in public interest law, an area that includes but is not limited to legal assistance groups, public defenders offices, special interest and minority group advocates, and civil liberties unions. The recipient's starting and projected average annual salary derived from the employment described above must be less than 125 percent of the "standard maintenance allowance (SMA)." Recipients are selected by a committee comprised of a member of the establishing class, faculty and staff. L3 Public Interest Law Foundation Grant Deadline May 5, 2021

The Public Interest Law Foundation Grant was established to encourage and support students engaged in public interest legal work, in 1995 the Iowa Law Foundation Board, at the recommendation of students and faculty, agreed that $20,000 of annual spendable earnings from non-restricted endowed scholarship accounts be awarded in the form of grants to 3-5 third-year students. The recipients must have demonstrated a commitment to pursuing public interest work and have substantial indebtedness from student loans. If a recipient of this grant does not procure employment in public interest work, the grant converts to a loan under the same terms of the Iowa Law School Foundation Loan program. Scholarships Available For NELA 2021: Raising The Bar For Workers’ Rights - Deadline May 24, 2021

Scholarships to attend NELA’s 2021 virtual Convention, Raising The Bar For Workers’ Rights, are available through The Employee Rights Advocacy Scholarship Program, a project of The Employee Rights Advocacy Institute For Law & Policy (The Institute), NELA’s public interest organization.
NELA and The Institute are committed to ensuring that NELA’s nationally renowned continuing legal education programs are accessible to those who would otherwise not be able to attend without financial assistance. We encourage applications for scholarships from legal services, public interest, and private lawyers who represent workers. Scholarship awards will cover the cost of the virtual Convention registration fee.

South Asian Bar Association of Chicago Law Student Public Interest Fellowship  - Deadline May 15, 2021

Thank you for your interest in the South Asian Bar Association of Chicago Foundation (the “SABA Chicago Foundation”) Law Student Public Interest Fellowship! The SABA Chicago Foundation Fellowship will be providing a $2,500 grant to two (2) law students this year who have demonstrated a commitment to public service.

All applicants for the 2021 SABA Chicago Foundation Law Student Public Interest Fellowship (“Fellowship”) must complete this application and sign the Applicant’s Certification at the end of this form. Additionally, to promote the grant recipient's exposure to public interest law, the selected applicant must commit to volunteering for a minimum of 18 hours, between June to December of 2021, in support of SABA Chicago Foundation's pro bono activities, including to  the  Indo- American Center's Cyriac Kappil Clinic, as the SABA Chicago Foundation Summer Intern.

Northwest Immigrant Rights Project

Bilingual Staff Attorney - Northwest Immigrant Rights Project

Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) seeks a bilingual attorney to provide direct representation, community outreach and education to adults facing removal (deportation) proceedings and people detained by ICE. This role is currently mostly remote due to COVID-19, but will resume to work out of NWIRP’s Tacoma office once operations return to in office.   

The attorney will provide legal representation to individuals in removal proceedings held at the Northwest Detention Center, a regional immigration center where community members are detained by ICE. The attorney will provide direct representation to detained persons in removal proceedings, including representation at the Tacoma or Seattle Immigration Courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The attorney will be managing a high-volume workload with complex legal issues in immigration and criminal law.

Candidate must be able to start the position by August 2021, with a preference for a sooner start.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Law degree;
  • Admission to the bar of any state in the U.S. (will consider a law graduate planning on taking the Summer 2021 bar examination);
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing and defending immigrant rights and willingness to support NWIRP’s mission, vision, and values;
  • Bilingual in English and another language;
  • Demonstrated interest in advocating for incarcerated or detained people;
  • Commitment to working in a diverse working environment;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to organize information in a clear and concise manner, including strong problem solving, research, and analytical skills;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment;
  • Ability to provide trauma-informed and culturally competent legal representation;
  • Ability to take on an existing caseload; and
  • Proficiency in use of web-based software and Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, and web peer-to-peer communication platforms.
