Fall 2020 Course Offering Conversions

This message is intended for those Academic Departmental Administrators, Chairs, Directors, and DEOs with Fall 2020 Course Offerings. As a reminder, Fall 2020 Course Conversions are due Tuesday, June 30. Please disregard this message if you are not the individual in your department or college that manages course offerings or if you already have them completed.  When your department has completed their spreadsheet, please indicate “Dept- Complete and Ready for Submission” in the chat/conversation window.

The tools required for the update to the Fall 2020 Course Offerings as discussed in the June 10, 2020, dispatch message from the Office of the Registrar are complete an ready for campus use.

Deadline

The deadline for course rescheduling is June 30, 2020.  This is a hard deadline in order to keep the rescheduling process moving forward as quickly as possible.  If the deadline is missed, your course offerings will be scheduled at the conclusion of all campus scheduling.

Instructions

You will find detailed instructions online to aid in your completion of the MAUI Planner Edit Section Information page and course offerings spreadsheet at Fall 2020 Course Offerings Conversion Instructions.  These tools will assist you in deciding how each course section will be offered in the fall 2020 semester (online, face-to-face or blended).  Additionally, you will find recommended priority considerations at this link.  We encourage review of submitted data by collegiate staff.

Professional Schools

Professional schools offering clinical rotations/simulations or who may have questions regarding their curriculum should direct their questions to tanya-uden-holman@uiowa.edu.

Student Impact Dashboard

Colleges and departments may find the COVID-19 Student Impact dashboard to be helpful in reviewing previous year enrollment counts, First Year student enrollees, and count of times a section appears within Sample Plans to indicate pathway/gateway course offerings.

Course Changes

50 Capacity or More

As officially confirmed in COVID Campus Update messaging on June 17, 2020: All courses with a 50 capacity optimum enrollment or more will be online and a bulk update process in MAUI will automatically update, by default rule, all sections to synchronous (real-time instruction), that currently have a day/time assignment in MAUI, and will add the Delivery Mode of “web,” and revise the location to World Wide Web.

If the department determines a section should be altered from synchronous to a different modality, departmental manual action is required.  Individuals with the ADA MAUI access role will have permissions to complete this data input.

  • If section should be adjusted to asynchronous (recorded instruction), use MAUI Planner, Edit Section Information page to manually indicate asynchronous in the Learning Type pull down menu
  • If section should be blended (has components of both synchronous and asynchronous modalities), manually indicate in MAUI Planner, Edit Section Information page. Please email charlene-maher@uiowa.edu for assistance with meeting pattern preference
  • If you believe a section of 50 or more should be offered face-to-face rather than online, please email renee-houser@uiowa.edu with reasonable justification for Office of the Provost review and approval process

49 Capacity or Below

For all section types with an optimum enrollment of 49 or below, please use the following Microsoft Teams link for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for access to a Fall 2020 offerings spreadsheet, organized by unit, for the classroom reassignment processes. Teams will provide departments and the Office of the Registrar a single point of reference for all scheduling, an area to share files as well as to “chat or converse” with our staff with questions.  In your Teams channel you will find:

  • Your individualized spreadsheet - College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
  • A link to the Course Section report to aid in identifying all 49 and under sections
  • A link to detailed instructions webpage.

Please review your offerings for classroom reallocation but do not rework the curriculum as thousands of students have registered and Fall Orientation sessions are underway.  When your spreadsheet is complete, please indicate in the “chat/conversation” window within Teams that your department is “Department Name - Complete and Ready for Submission.”

The seven fields outlined below are required on the spreadsheet to aid Classroom Scheduling in order to create the best possible schedule and to ensure that proper needs are met.

  • Priority Category
  • Delivery Mode Exception
  • Required Room Preference
  • Pending Cancellation
  • Departmental Location Change Necessary
  • Time Location Change
  • Additional Comments

Questions

Please let us know if you have any questions or need assistance with your offerings. We will be happy to provide a Zoom session to walk you through the rescheduling process, please contact registrar-room-res@uiowa.edu for details.
