Joshua Weiner Associate Dean for Research Professor of Biology College of Liberal Arts and Sciences | | | It was a banner year in the college for research work, both in total and proposed research funding. The last fiscal year brought in $118 million, surpassing the previous record by nearly $40 million. | | Check out this extensive list of grant opportunities available internally and externally. Deadlines are approaching quickly for several listings. | | | CLAS is a powerhouse of research, discovery, and creativity. That is reflected in the grants our faculty receive as they work to advance scholarship in their areas of study. Please congratulate the following faculty on their recent awards.
| | So far this year, Tom Folland has earned five grants totaling more than $2.8 million to help advance his research in condensed matter and materials physics, including a major CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation. | | | Chris Harris received the award, which carries a $75,000 unrestricted prize and is presented to mid-career artists who have shown dedication and taking risks in the fields of dance, film/video, music, theatre, and visual artists. | | Brady G’Sell was awarded the American Postdoctoral Research Leave Fellowship by the American Association of University Women. The award carries a $50,000 grant, allowing her to take time to research and finish her upcoming book with Stanford University Press. | | | Anna Stanhewicz received a five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health to advance her research in gestational diabetes and the long-term impact it can have on people.
| | Brian Ekdale and Rishab Nithyanand are collaborating on a project funded by the U.S. Department of Defense to examine social media vulnerabilities. They are also working with graduate students, alumni, and external faculty on the project. | | | Florence Williams has earned a prestigious early-career grant from the National Science Foundation. The award carries $650,000 and will help fund current chemical research work and other projects.
