Kevin Washburn, College of Law professor and former dean, has been elected to the 2025 class of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, which recognizes and celebrates the excellence of its members and operates as an independent research center for members to work together to address significant challenges. Washburn is one of the nearly 250 new members and one of eight recognized for work in law.

The University of Iowa is temporarily suspending its search for a new associate provost for graduate and professional education and dean of the Graduate College. Two finalists were invited for interviews in April, after which a candidate was offered the position but elected to pursue another opportunity.

Investigators are encouraged to continue developing and submitting proposals for external funding. On Arbor Day last week, members of the UI campus and greater community came together to plant the seeds of a new Miyawaki forest on the west side of campus. Over the course of four days, about 4,000 native seedlings were planted, making it the second and largest Miyawaki forest in the state. View this photo gallery to see the forest come to life.

A new study from the Tippie College of Business found consumers tend to view a brand’s use of slang in their marketing as inauthentic and results in a loss of credibility. Experiments showed less engagement with social media posts with slang, as well as consumers reporting being less likely to buy a product after seeing the messages.
