As the end of the academic year approaches, it’s time to celebrate all of your fantastic achievements. Many campus groups that give awards will take part in the UI’s second annual Faculty and Staff Awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 5, at Hancher Auditorium. See a list of those who will be recognized.

One year after opening its North Liberty campus, UI Health Care leaders project continued growth in caring for patients locally and across the state — to the point where plans are underway to build out existing shell space designated for future expansion.

The UI has named six additional Provost AI Fellows to develop and teach courses for the new undergraduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence, launching in fall 2026. Fellows receive funding and collaborate regularly to discuss certificate goals, share course progress, and work on continuous improvement of AI education at Iowa. Read more about the fellows.

Mark your calendars! Tickets to Hancher Auditorium’s 2027 Broadway series go on sale June 8, and single tickets go on sale July 20. The series includes A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical, Six, Shucked, and The Wiz, as well as Audra Goes to Hollywood, a one-night performance by Tony Award winner Audra McDonald. In the UI’s Sports Analytics for Decision Makers course, students are the NFL decision makers, making picks and analyzing talent. Led by Adam Kempenaar, professor of practice in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Sport and Recreation Management Program, the class blends strategy, storytelling, and analytics while preparing students for careers behind the scenes in professional sports.

The Iowa Board of Regents approved a tuition increase for UI students at its meeting April 23. Undergraduate tuition will increase $287 for residents and $475 for nonresidents, while graduate tuition will increase $360 for residents and $464 for nonresidents. These increases will take effect at the start of the fall 2026 semester.

President Barbara Wilson touted recent faculty hires in brain and neuroscience at the April Iowa Board of Regents meeting. The new faculty, including a chair of the Department of Surgery, come from top universities and expand Iowa’s expertise in critical research areas like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. Wilson also provided updates on high-impact practices, reSPARC savings, nursing education, and the Cancer in Iowa: 99 Counties Project.
