In a little less than four years, Johnson has become a cherished presence at the college and is known for his infectious positivity and remarkable ability to uplift everyone around him. On Friday’s you’ll see him wearing his signature “Happy Friday” shirt, a reflection of the joy he brings to the workplace. Johnson is a true ambassador, and the college is a better place because of him. | | | Reminder: IDA, faculty luncheon is today The Iowa Dental Association is hosting the inaugural IDA Meet and Greet Luncheon for faculty members today in Galagan A from 12 – 12:45 p.m. This meeting will serve as an opportunity for faculty members to meet with IDA leadership and casually discuss how the college can collaborate with organized dentistry in Iowa. | | Info Corner: service animals We may have patients who bring service animals to the Dental Science Building. Please familiarize yourself with policy 6.14 in our Clinic Operations Manual located on the Intradent. Service animals are permitted in any area open to the public, however there are limitations for service animals in procedure areas. Members of the college may ask if a service animal is required because of a disability and, if so, what work, or task has the animal been trained to perform. You cannot inquire about the nature of the disability of medical history. Additionally, emotional support animals are not recognized as service animals and are not allowed in the DSB. | | | There are two types of orofacial clefts (OFC), cleft lip with or without cleft palate (CL/P) and cleft palate only (CP). Although prior studies had found sex-specific risks for CL/P that explain why CL/P is more common in males than in females, the fact that CP is more prevalent for females than for males has not been explained. To address this gap, the research team with several University of Iowa researchers performed a sex-stratified genome-wide association study based on proband sex followed by genome-wide gene-by-sex interaction testing. The team found that LTBP1 is a gene of interest for CP risk, particularly for females, but these findings would not have been detectable in a combined sex cohort. | | Events
