Carrie Lowry Schuettpelz, associate professor of practice and director of undergraduate studies in the UI School of Planning and Public Affairs, has been awarded a prestigious grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the nation’s largest funder of the arts, culture, and humanities. The $1.1 million grant will go toward projects that provide resources and support to Native Nations.

Nash Keen celebrated his first birthday in July — but a year ago, the milestone felt potentially impossible. Born at 21 weeks and weighing 10 ounces, Nash holds the Guinness World Record title of most premature baby. But thanks to the excellent care he received in the NICU at UI Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital, including from neonatologist Amy Stanford, Nash went home in January and continues to thrive.

During football practice in 2021, former Hawkeye punter Nick Phelps sustained a serious leg injury and was told there was a chance his leg would have to be amputated. But thanks to three surgeries performed at UI Health Care, Phelps went on to continue his football career and complete a marathon.

Megan Gustafson, former Iowa women’s basketball star and current player for the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces, has added “author” to her résumé. Her children’s book, Pancake’s Passport, will be released Aug. 20 and follows the story of how her corgi, Pancake, has been a steady comfort during her career as a professional athlete.

- Tippie’s online MBA among top 10 nationally: The Princeton Review ranked the Tippie College of Business’ Iowa MBA among the top online programs in the country in 2025, placing it No. 6 among all programs and No. 4 among public universities. The 2025 ranking is up from the most recent ranking in 2023, when the Iowa MBA ranked No. 16 overall.
