4 UI faculty members honored with Iowa Mid-Career Faculty Scholar Award

Four University of Iowa faculty members have been selected as recipients of the Iowa Mid-Career Faculty Scholar Awards for 2023. The award provides funding to assist top, mid-career tenured associate professors who have an established national or international reputation in their discipline and are exceptional teachers in and outside the classroom.

5 faculty named Hubbard-Walder honorees

Five University of Iowa faculty members—Dawn Barker Anderson, Loyce Arthur, Megan Knight, Emily Mozena, and Rachel Young — were named winners of the Hubbard-Walder Award for Excellence in Teaching. 

 

VP for medical affairs, Carver College of Medicine dean finalists to visit campus

The University of Iowa search committee for the new vice president for medical affairs and dean of the Carver College of Medicine has selected candidates for on-campus interviews. Two candidates will visit campus in early May to participate in open forums and meet with faculty, staff, students, shared governance, and campus leadership.

The University of Iowa search committee for the new dean of the College of Engineering has selected three final candidates who will visit campus to participate in open forums and meet with faculty, staff, students, shared governance, and campus leadership.

 

Philanthropist and UI benefactor John Pappajohn dies at 94

John Pappajohn, one of the University of Iowa's most generous supporters whose name graces many buildings on campus, died Saturday, April 22. He was 94. Read about how “The Opportunity Kid” transformed his home state through entrepreneurship, art, and education.

UI has 30 colleges and programs in 2024 USNWR Best Graduate School rankings

Thirty University of Iowa colleges and programs were recognized among the best in their field in the U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools rankings for 2024. Five of these programs received a top-10 ranking in this year’s report.

 

UI makes space for new adult inpatient tower to improve health care access for Iowans

The west side of campus will begin to visibly transform this spring as the University of Iowa starts to make space for a new adult inpatient tower. After months of planning, UI Health Care, in close collaboration with the university, is ready to turn its vision for a new adult inpatient tower into reality. Before construction on the tower can begin, however, a new academic building will be built and multiple existing structures will be taken down.

Longevity Awards: October 2022 through March 2023

University of Iowa Staff Council's service-recognition program acknowledges all professional and scientific merit staff who have reached 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, or 50 years of continuous service. Awardees receive a certificate and letter of appreciation from the Office of the President.

 

28 teaching assistants receive Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award

The University of Iowa Council on Teaching named 28 teaching assistants as recipients of the 2023 Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. These awards have been given annually since 1988 to a select group of graduate teaching assistants who have effectively promoted learning and creativity both inside and outside the classroom while demonstrating enthusiasm and dedication to student success.

We're proud of our 14th consecutive Tree Campus USA designation

The University of Iowa was once again designated a Tree Campus USA by the Tree Campus Higher Education Program. The UI was the first college in Iowa to win the award in 2009 and has earned this award each consecutive year since due to its longstanding commitment to sustainable campus forestry.
