Our collegiate site has been optimized for prospective and current students, while the CLAS Resource site houses information and resources for faculty and staff. Please bookmark the new internal website so you can visit it regularly.

The School of Art and Art History is now the School of Art, Art History, and Design. The new title reflects the growth of Iowa’s art programs, recognizes the long history of design expertise as part of the curriculum, and will open more doors for our students.

Featured achievements

Ravitej Uppu, assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, received a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation. The award is given to early-career faculty for research and education and will fund Uppu’s research in electronic and photonic properties.

Cathleen Moore, professor of psychological and brain sciences, will use a $413,267 grant from the National Institutes of Health to develop techniques to make pools safer. Moore and her team will research the limitations and impact of attention and perception on lifeguarding and use virtual reality to test various methods of training.

Spotlight CLAS

Jennifer Graham, a senior application developer, recently received recognition for her significant contributions to CLAS Technology Services and for mentoring junior developers and student employees.

Victor Ray, associate professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology, was nominated by his colleagues to run for the role. He hopes this new position will connect his students with a larger network.

Monday, Aug. 26

The first day of classes for the 2024-25 academic year is on Monday, Aug 26. As you prepare, remember that helpful information including policies and resources for undergraduate teaching have moved to the new CLAS Resource site. You will find various resources under "Instruction" in the navigation menu.

Now-Aug. 30

It’s not too late to participate in the campus wellness scavenger hunt! This year’s activity features Herky on Parade, a public art installation featuring 100 Herky statues across Johnson County. You can complete the scavenger hunt on campus, or you can participate virtually. Be sure to register online.
