University of Iowa Health Care began welcoming patients on Tuesday, Dec. 16, to its newest facility at 2751 Northgate Drive on the east side of Iowa City, just minutes north of Interstate 80. The Northgate Drive clinic serves as the new home for UI Health Care’s Department of Family and Community Medicine.

Susan Shen, assistant professor of psychiatry in the Carver College of Medicine, is the first from UI and the first female psychiatrist to receive a coveted Avenir Award grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Shen attributes winning the award to a supportive department and a “bold” grant proposal.

Anna Stanhewicz, associate professor in the Department of Health, Sport, and Human Physiology, received the 2026 Henry Pickering Bowditch Award lectureship for early-career scholars from the American Physiological Society. Stanhewicz is an emerging leader in women’s cardiovascular physiology, and her work has deepened understanding of how complications in the body’s small blood vessels contribute to heart and metabolic diseases.

- Cambus winter break schedule: Cambus winter break service runs from Saturday, Dec. 20, to Sunday, Jan. 18. There is no service on weekends or university holidays (Dec. 25 and 26, Jan. 1), and frequency is reduced on some routes.
- Professional development awards available for staff: UI staff can apply for awards to cover fees for select spring workshops to enhance skills and support career growth. Recipients will be selected randomly. Complete this form by 5 p.m. Jan. 6 to enter.
