University of Iowa space physicist Craig Kletzing’s life was cut short before he could complete his most ambitious NASA mission. The professor’s colleagues stepped in to bring TRACERS to the launch pad, with the mission expected to take off later this year to study Earth’s magnetic interactions with the sun. Following a landmark NCAA court settlement, university athletic departments across the country will be allowed to share athletics revenue with student-athletes for the first time, beginning July 1. In response, UI Athletics is partnering with the UI Center for Advancement to launch Flight Funds, a new charitable giving program where fans can directly support student-athletes through revenue sharing.

UI Libraries funded 12 OpenHawks grant proposals for 2025-26, which will support faculty efforts to replace or avoid high-cost textbooks with Open Educational Resources. The projects, which are expected to be complete in January 2027, will save UI students approximately $100,000 in the first year of use alone.

Providing care for a parent or spouse with dementia is a demanding job, and it can be especially challenging for rural residents who are juggling both caregiving and farm work. A new training resource that addresses the unique safety and cultural concerns of farm families caring for a loved one with dementia is being tested by researchers in the Midwest. The project is co-led by Kanika Arora, associate professor of health management and policy at the UI.
