| Dean's Message
Two weeks ago, we held our annual Alumni Reunion for class years ending in 4s and 9s, and I thoroughly enjoyed this year's event, which was held at a new downtown venue - The Graduate Hotel. It was also the first year we have invited residents of our graduate programs. It was a joy to celebrate and honor three of our outstanding alumni in Lisa Holst, Kecia Leary, and Zach Kouri and catch up with alumni - many of whom were classmates of mine or students when I was here before. I'm already looking forward to next year's reunion for class years ending in 5s and 0s, so mark your calendars! We're eyeing a couple dates in September, once again, and we will confirm a weekend with a Save The Date in early 2025. Cheers! ~Clark Stanford | | | His Hands Clinic invites students to volunteer Returning for it’s third year, His Hands Free Clinic in Cedar Rapids is inviting College of Dentistry students to participate in the care of patients for the 2024-25 academic year. Lilly Professor of Diagnostic Sciences at the College of Dentistry, was featured in a Q&A by the Fogarty International Center. Butali talked about his research infrastructure, how he decided to pursue oral health research, and more. | | Bowers celebrates 50 years living with diabetes Hilda Bowers, Administration Services Coordinator in Dentistry Administration, was honored with a 50-year token from Eli Lily Company to celebrate 50 years living with diabetes.
“It sounds strange to 'celebrate’ 50 years of living with diabetes, but the celebration is that I’m still living and enjoying life. Why have I lived so long, and others don’t? I wish I knew; I would share that information with all who need it. For now, I celebrate my accomplishment to encourage others to keep up the fight. Like I always told myself, ‘If I give up, I will lose.’” | | | Heading to New Orleans, Louisiana, for the American Dental Association’s annual meeting?
