Admissions Achieves Great Success Despite Pandemic Challenges

DDS Admissions had a great deal of success in 2020 despite pandemic-associated challenges. For the first year in the history of the UI College of Dentistry, the college admitted more female DDS students than male DDS students and the college had its highest acceptance rate for its incoming class—which included its second-highest acceptance rate among black, indigenous, and other people of color. Few Dentists Getting COVID-19; Aerosol study from UI featured

The American Dental Association published a report in early October indicating that rates of COVID-19 among dentists were low, despite the close contact with patients and their mouths and noses. The low rates were attributed to "enhanced infection control procedures" and one of the researchers in the College of Dentistry's aerosol study, Dr. Renee Anthony, professor of occupational and environmental health at the University of Iowa, talked about research regarding how to minimize risks for patients visiting dental clinics. Fit to Go program helps dental students, groups get back on their feet

The university’s recreational center has altered its once in-person private instructor program to be offered online as a Fit to Go program, giving on-campus student groups a break from classes to help them get active. About 20 dental students at a time are participating in classes for dentistry. Fourth-year dental student Hannah Klaassen has been participating and is profiled in The Daily Iowan.

Teresa Schmidt is working as a Support Services Specialist in the Admissions Clinic. She is married and has 3 children, and she lives in Lone Tree with her husband and son. She is very excited to join the College of Dentistry!

Jenna Weyant

The College of Dentistry Welcomes Jenna Weyant to the Family Dentistry Clinic

Jenna Weyant lives in North Liberty with her husband, Chad, and two kids, six-year old Maddox and three-year old Myah. She previously worked as a team lead in Registration for UIHC. She was there for two and a half years before transitioning to the Family Dentistry Clinic as a support service specialist. Jenna said, "I am excited to get to know everyone and meet some new people!"

Iowa Scrub Top

The University of Iowa College of Dentistry Online Scrub Store Is Open!

The yearly University of Iowa College of Dentistry Online Scrub Store is now open until November 1. This year we have scrub tops and bottoms split into tall, generic, and petite options. The scrubs will be embroidered and sent to the college 7-10 days after the store closes. If all goes according to plan, they should be distributed before Thanksgiving break at the College of Dentistry.
