UI faculty members Lori Adams, Rima Afifi, Erin Barnes, Monica Correia, and Carl Follmer are serving as Provost Faculty Fellows for fiscal year 2026. The fellows will work to expand mentorship and professional development opportunities, explore new uses of AI in teaching and learning, and advance other initiatives to support the 2022-2027 Strategic Plan.

Rachel Crawford, graduate student in the UI College of Pharmacy, was recently awarded a highly competitive National Research Service Award predoctoral fellowship from the National Institutes of Health for her work in toxicology. Congress did not pass new appropriation legislation by the Sept. 30 deadline, and a federal shutdown went into effect on Oct. 1. The U.S. Department of Education will continue to disburse Federal Pell Grants and Federal Direct Student Loans. However, the shutdown does affect several aspects of the UI research enterprise. For valet supervisor Paul Sanders, an ordinary day at the front doors of the UI Health Care university campus quickly turned extraordinary when he noticed an individual in distress. - Staff Appreciation Grant application open until Oct. 24: The Staff Appreciation Grant provides financial support to departments or units seeking to recognize and celebrate their staff through small events, team-building activities, or recognition items. This program is designed to promote a positive work environment through localized appreciation efforts.
- Funding available for innovative teaching projects: The Innovations in Teaching with Technology Awards provide funding for instructional technology projects that have the potential to improve student success and retention. If you’ve been experimenting with new teaching approaches that involved technology, submit your proposals by Oct. 13.
