Upcoming grant and fellowship deadlines

Check out this extensive list of grant opportunities available internally and externally through the end of the year. Deadlines are approaching quickly for some of the October listings. Also note the unique offerings available through the W.M. Keck Foundation for medical and science and engineering projects. Only two applications are accepted from the UI each year, one for each category. Concept papers are due Dec. 5 

Meet Carmen Langel

Carmen Langel is our new Grant Support Office Director. She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Iowa and comes to CLAS from IHR-Hydroscience and Engineering, where she led development and communications, including grant writing. Learn more about her in this Q&A. 

Translation Program receives a $1 million grant to form National Resource Center for Translation and Global Literacy

Associate Professor Aron Aji led a team of colleagues across campus to produce a successful proposal to the U.S. Department of Education. The grant totals more than $1 million over the next four years—one of the UI's largest humanities grants. 

CLAS mathematics professor receives $1.7 million NIH research grant

Mathematics Assistant Professor Yangyang Wang received a Collaborative Research in Computational Neuroscience (CRCNS) award that will support research that may help inform opioid use disorder.

Interdisciplinary team secures $500K to address climate, environment, and health

The team includes Biology faculty members Professor Josep Comeron, Associate Professor Veena Prahlad, and Associate Professor of Instruction and Iowa Sciences Academy Director Lori Adams. The team will investigate the effect of the diverse environmental stressors affected by climate change on the unique health challenges of rural people.

Iowa Social Science Research Center helping advance social science research

Directed by Frederick Boehmke, Professor and Marvin and Rose Lee Pomerantz Chair in Political Science, this center provides resources for faculty and researchers at Iowa, including data collection and analysis; grant development; transcription and data entry; as well as workshops and consulting. Learn more about how this center is supporting the UI's research mission. 

Art and science collaborate on new brain sculpture

Receptive Field was recently installed at the Iowa Neuroscience Institute (INI) inside the Pappajohn Biomedical Discovery Building. School of Art and Art History Associate Professor Daniel Miller created the piece, based on brain scan composites from faculty research at the institute.
