On a recent morning walk with her husband and dog, President Barb Wilson found a note near the bike rack outside of Burge Residence Hall, which included money and an apology for breaking a reflector. Inspired by the anonymous act of kindness, President Wilson hopes to connect with the individuals involved to get the note — and money — into the right hands.

Val Sheffield, UI Carver College of Medicine professor of pediatrics and ophthalmology and visual sciences, and Edwin Stone, professor of ophthalmology and director of the UI Institute for Vision Research, are the recipients of the 2025 Helen Keller Prize for Vision Research for their groundbreaking contributions to vision research. The committee formed to review the UI’s use of the Macbride Nature Recreation Area has completed its review and submitted it to President Barbara Wilson. The review was announced last year as part of a standard process for regularly evaluating programming and centers. You can read the review here.

- Biology Building courtyard, Sciences Library to close: Due to underground utility work, the courtyard between Biology Building and Phillips Hall will be closed from May 19 to March 20, 2026. The sidewalk on the east side of the courtyard will be closed for the duration of the project, with pedestrian traffic detoured along North Dubuque Street and Jefferson Street. In addition, the Sciences Library will be closed from May 19 to July 13, 2025, but Sciences Library staff will continue to assist with checking out materials.
- Reminder: Commencement ceremonies begin today: College commencement ceremonies kick off today, with many more happening throughout the weekend. If you plan to attend a ceremony, look online for full ceremony details.
- Cambus summer schedule begins Saturday: Cambus will operate its summer service Saturday, May 17, through Friday, Aug. 22. During this time, frequency will be reduced on some routes and service after 8:45 p.m. is provided by the On-Demand Shuttle. Also, there will be no service May 26 and July 4.
- View list of Career Impact Award winners: On May 7, the Pomerantz Career Center hosted its Career Impact Awards ceremony honoring faculty and staff, student employees, and student supervisors across campus. A full list of awards and recipients can be found on the Pomerantz Career Center website.
