Iowa has the second-highest rate of cancer incidence in the country. To help give Iowans a clearer picture of these trends, a public health team from the UI and other state partners is providing specific cancer reports for all 99 Iowa counties. The team has been presenting data to residents, sharing each county’s most diagnosed new cancers, risk factors, and resources available to help.

A team of researchers led by Mark Greiner, UI professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences, is using a National Eye Institute grant to develop a new drug therapy to prevent vision loss caused by an inherited eye disease that affects more than 4% of U.S. adults older than 40. The team aims to create eye drops that will reduce or prevent the need for surgery for those with the disease.
