New law allows accommodation requests for pregnancy-related limitations

The Pregnant Worker Fairness Act goes into effect June 27. This new federal law provides employees who have known limitations related to pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions the opportunity to seek reasonable accommodations in a manner similar to the Americans with Disabilities Act.

CLAS professor receives Herb Alpert Award in the Arts

Christopher Harris, associate professor in the Department of Cinematic Arts, received the Herb Alpert Award in the Arts. The award is presented to mid-career artists who have shown dedication and ability to take risks in the fields of dance, film/video, music, theater, and visual arts. Harris recently partnered with Obermann Center for Advanced Studies to organize and host Frequências: Contemporary Afro-Brazilian Cinema & the Black Diaspora, a symposium highlighting the work of Black and Afro-Brazilian filmmakers.

The Hawkeye Distinguished Veterans Award honors members of the armed forces who have demonstrated exceptional service to the United States, their communities, and the University of Iowa.
