Funding Landscape

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) announces programs supporting humanities research and writing.

Three NEH programs have recently released funding opportunities that are open to individual applicants. These programs provide competitive support for individual scholars and authors conducting humanities research and writing projects.

The deadline for these programs is April 22, 2026.

Submissions are now open for the 2026 Eric and Wendy Schmidt Awards for Excellence in Science Communication.  

Presented by the National Academies in partnership with Schmidt Sciences, this award honors research scientists, science journalists, and science communicators whose work advances public understanding of science, engineering, and medicine.

Awards will be presented in the following categories:

  • Research Scientists — graduate students, early-career researchers, and later-career researchers
  • Science Journalists — local/regional, early-career, and freelance
  • Science Communicators — independent and organizational communicators

Submissions are accepted through April 3, 2026.

New Limited Submission Opportunities

NIH: Collaborative Program Grant for Multidisciplinary Teams (RM1 - Clinical Trial Optional)

Description: This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is designed to support highly integrated research teams of three to six Program Directors/Principal Investigators (PDs/PIs) to address ambitious and challenging research questions that are within the mission of NIGMS. Project goals should not be achievable with a collection of individual efforts or projects. Collaborative program teams are expected to accomplish goals that require considerable synergy and managed team interactions. Teams are encouraged to consider far-reaching objectives that will produce major advances in their fields.This FOA is not intended for applications that are mainly focused on the creation, expansion, and/or maintenance of community resources, creation of new technologies, or infrastructure development.
Limitation: two applications per institution
Internal Submission Deadline: Wednesday, April 8, 2026
Sponsor Application Deadline: Wednesday, May 27, 2026
