Out of more than 800 applicants, UI graduate student Pravda Quiñones-Labernik was selected for the 2025 cohort of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Gilliam Fellows Program, which offers PhD students up to three years of dissertation support and opportunities to connect with others in their fields. Quiñones-Labernik is researching neurobiological mechanisms that could explain why neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism, are more common in boys.

- Learn about upcoming retirement plan enhancements: Changes to the UI’s retirement plans through TIAA take effect in September, featuring a streamlined and lower-cost investment lineup. - Drivers, be aware of increased pedestrian traffic Friday night: If you travel near UI Health Care university campus, expect increased pedestrian traffic on Hawkeye Wave Way and Hawkins Drive on Friday, Aug. 22, for the Kickoff at Kinnick and Kinnick After Party events. Students will be walking to Kinnick Stadium between 7:15 and 8 p.m. and leave at about 11 p.m.

- Parking ambassadors helping UI Health Care patients: Patient parking ambassadors are now stationed at Parking Ramp 2 to help reduce parking-related stress at UI Health Care university campus. This new pilot program began Aug. 18.
