| Dean's Message
I hope you all had a relaxing and rejuvenating holiday! We are in the final stretch of 2024, and so I would like to ask each of you, whether you are a student, faculty, staff, or alumni, to take a moment this month to look back on 2024, the highs and, well, challenges you've faced, the opportunities you've seized, and your accomplishments. You are your harshest critic but you can balance that and be your biggest cheerleader. I wish you all a productive and fulfilling conclusion to 2024! Cheers! ~Clark Stanford | | | The College of Dentistry congratulates Jessica Grundmeyer on receiving the 2024 Student Cariology Research Award from the American Academy of Cariology. Under the direction of Dr. Robert Bowers, assistant professor in the Department of Family Dentistry, Grundmeyer's research explores various methodologies for applying silver diamine fluoride (SDF), including supplemental topical agents, and examines their effects on root dentin's microhardness and biofilm inhibition. | | Bradley named Student Impact Grant recipient Congratulations to Madison Bradley on being named a recipient of the Fall 2024 Student Impact Grant. Ageism combating strategies in oral healthcare: A systematic review. Spec Care Dentist. 2024 Dec 2. doi: 10.1111/scd.13094. PMID: 39618319.
This systematic review examines strategies to reduce ageism in dental education. The study found just two relevant studies. They showed that non-geriatric-specific clinical activities might reduce ageism among students. However, these studies used different tools to measure ageism. The review argued that dental schools need effective targeted interventions to address ageism in dental education. Future studies are recommended that would evaluate the long-term impact of such interventions on both student- and patient-outcomes. | | Events
