Residence hall fire drills this week | University Housing and Dining will conduct fire drills in the upcoming weeks. You MUST evacuate during a fire alarm; failure to do so is a violation of University policy and could result in disciplinary action. Once you exit the hall, please move to a safe distance away from the building, but do not block traffic. University Housing and Dining staff will help instruct you where to go and let you know when you are able to reenter the building.

Please remember that during all fire alarms and building evacuations, we request that you evacuate the building using the nearest exit, after closing and locking your room door behind you. | | Room change waitlist open | The room change waitlist opens in the housing portal starting at 12 p.m. (noon) on Monday, Jan. 22. You can join up to five waitlists: one per room type, per building. Room change offers will begin on Jan. 29 as space becomes available. Offers will be made in the order requests were received online and will continue through March 22, as space allows.
Please be aware that adding your name to the waitlist(s) does not guarantee a room change offer. We have a very limited number of single and completely open double rooms on campus. To increase your chances of a room change offer, we strongly encourage you to be flexible with room type and location. | | Stay healthy this semester | Need an appointment with a health care professional on campus? Visit Student Health! Your student fees already pay for these services. Take advantage of the IMU Nurse Care location for routine vaccinations or UI health requirements.
Influenza, covid, and other viruses are common this time of year so remember to take a few simple steps to keep yourself and those around you healthy:
- Talk to your doctor about vaccinations
- Wash your hands frequently
- Cover your cough and sneeze
- Consider masking
- Stay home if you’re sick (don't forget to email your professor or supervisor to let them know)
| | Keep your head up this winter | Use this relief from arctic temperatures to make a plan for how you'll handle the rest of winter. Many individuals are affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a form of depression associated with the lack of natural light. Check out a light box from Student Wellness at the CRWC for free to try a month of light therapy.
Looking to lift your spirits in a group environment? Join an intramural team! There are lots of sports to choose from, including some you may not know like Futsal. | | Late-night dining options in residence halls | We're excited to open Black's Gold Grill in Petersen Hall this semester! Open from 5 p.m. to midnight, Sunday-Thursday, this campus cafe offers quesadillas, burgers, mac and cheese, chicken tenders and more, with plans to expand the menu this semester. Black's Gold Grill does not take meal swipes, but you can use your Hawkeye Dollars, U-Bill charge, or credit card.
On the east side of campus, Catlett Hall houses Fire Up Late Night Grill, open 9 p.m. to midnight, Sunday-Thursday. Clinton Street Market in Burge Hall also serves hot food options until midnight. Don't waste money on delivery when you have tasty options nearby! | | Important dates, deadlines, and events | | |                   | | | |
