| Dean's Message
Thank you to all of our alumni who came back to Iowa City for homecoming last weekend. We had over 200 alumni and friends at our final alumni tailgate of 2024 on Saturday and it was a great event made even better with faculty emeriti Drs. Holmes and Clancy and their band, The DogFathers, performing for the group. Over the next couple of weeks, we are wrapping up our fall slate of CE courses and finish interviewing prospective DDS students, who are applying to begin dental school in the fall of 2025. Cheers! ~Clark Stanford | | | College of Dentistry to host First-Gen Celebration On Tuesday, Nov. 5, the College of Dentistry is hosting a First-Gen Celebration in W220B from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Faculty, staff, students, and residents are invited to grab beverages and share support for First-Gen students. Anti-aging Metabolite-Based Polymeric Microparticles for Intracellular Drug Delivery and Bone Regeneration. Small Sci. 2024 Oct 6;4(10):2400201. doi: 10.1002/smsc.202400201. 2024 Sep 3. Researchers at the University of Iowa have developed innovative polymeric microparticles to directly administer α-ketoglutarate (AKG), an antiaging metabolite, for bone repair. These biodegradable particles promote bone cell differentiation and stimulate tissue regeneration, which is especially useful for large bone defects. By delivering these drugs efficiently, the microparticles ensure targeted delivery to the site of the defect, thereby enhancing healing and reducing side effects while bypassing many of the challenges of dietary AKG. Early trials show significant improvements in cranial bone repair. This pioneering work holds great promise for regenerative medicine, potentially reducing the need for high-dose growth factors and invasive procedures. | | Events
