UI secures $704M in external funding in FY23

The University of Iowa secured $704.1 million in external funding for fiscal year 2023, including $561.3 million in funds to support leading-edge research, public service, and creative discovery. Tickets go on sale July 31 for Hancher's new season

Hancher Auditorium's new season will feature many contemporary acts, such as Jason Isbell and Mavis Staples, Broadway shows, and new collaborations, including the Iowa debut of Fierce, a new opera for which UI professor William Minefield composed the music.

 

UI suspending UPASS program for Iowa City Transit riders starting Aug. 1

The Iowa City Transit system will become fare-free on Aug. 1 as part of a two-year pilot program. At that time, the University of Iowa will suspend its UPASS program for Iowa City Transit, while UPASS for Coralville Transit will remain unchanged.

Longevity Awards: April, May, and June 2023

University of Iowa Staff Council’s service-recognition program acknowledges all professional and scientific merit staff who have reached 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, or 50 years of continuous service. Awardees receive a certificate and letter of appreciation from the Office of the President.

 

Gaine, Zhang win Iowa Neuroscience Institute fellowships for neurodegeneration research

Two University of Iowa faculty members have been awarded Williams-Cannon Faculty Fellowships through the Iowa Neuroscience Institute. Marie Gaine, assistant professor of pharmaceutical sciences and experimental therapeutics, and Qiang (Johnson) Zhang, clinical assistant professor of neurology, will receive funding to support their research into new therapies for neurodegenerative disease.

Celebrate Brooks Jackson’s tenure as VPMA, Carver College of Medicine dean

President Barbara Wilson invites the campus to join her in celebrating the accomplishments of Brooks Jackson during his tenure as vice president for medical affairs and Carver College of Medicine dean. A open-house reception will be held on from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, in the Jean and Renée Robillard Atrium of the Medical Education Research Facility, 375 Newton Road.
