FIRST Tech Challenge: Off-Season Information

Coach & Mentor Professional Development

All coaches (new and returning) are invited to join us for a Coach & Mentor Professional Development.

Dates: Aug 1-3, 2022
Location: Seamans Center, 103 S. Capitol St., Iowa City, Iowa

Goals of the PD:

Prepare coaches and mentors for an upcoming FTC Season.
Connect coaches and mentors with each other, future connections for future questions or issues.
Educate attendees about recent or new changes within FTC.
Expand the knowledge base of attendees. Help attendees think outside of the box of what they normally would have considered.
Have participants go through a mini-season within a team: a build season; a "tournament" with a judging interview, matches and an alliance selection.
Share the expectations FTC-Iowa has for coaches and mentors.
To be as interactive as possible. Lots of small group activities. Less presentations.

Changes to FIRST Pricing

As of March 21, FIRST announced some increases of prices which affect FTC teams.

FIRST Registration will increase to $295
FTC Control & Communication Set (reusable): $265*
REV Control Hub (reusable): $282*
TETRIX Competition set (reusable): $580
REV Competition set (reusable): $555

For more information about the FIRST increasing of prices, please visit this website. At this time, FTC Iowa will not increase the registration fees for the 2022-2023 season.

*At this time, there is a major supply chain issue with the REV Control sets. Projected arrival is late Summer 2022. For questions, please contact support@revrobotics.com

Dates & Deadlines for the 2022-2023 Season

For the 2022-2023 PowerPlay Season, the following are dates & deadlines:

Thurs., May 19, 2022: FIRST Registration opens*
Sat., Sept. 10, 2022: FIRST PowerPlay Kick-Off and Game Reveal (more information will be sent over the summer)
Sat., Oct. 22, 2022: First day of meets
Sat., Jan. 7, 2023-Feb. 18, 2023: Tournament Season
Friday, March 3 & Saturday, 4, 2023: Iowa Championship
April, 2023: World Championship

FIRST Championship Announcement: 2023 & 2024

As announced to the FIRST Community yesterday, for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 Seasons, FIRST will host a single FIRST Championship.

The 2023 FIRST Championship will be April 19-22, 2023 and the 2024 FIRST Championship will be April 17-20, 2024. Both will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.

FIRST LEGO League Position Opening

The College of Engineering at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for coordinator for FIRST LEGO League, this individual would be responsible for coordinating large scale events for both FLL Challenge and FLL Explore, including qualifiers and the state championship held on ISU’s campus. The coordinator will also partner with K-7 school district leaders, teachers, volunteers, and community partners to bring FLL programs to youth across the state.
