Saba Rasheed Ali has been named associate provost for graduate and professional education and dean of the Graduate College at the University of Iowa, effective July 1. Ali, professor of counseling psychology and associate dean for research in the College of Education, will serve in the role until a permanent appointment is made.

Stanley Perlman, professor of microbiology and immunology and pediatrics in the UI Carver College of Medicine, has been elected as a member of the National Academy of Sciences for his distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. Membership in the academy is among the most prestigious honors in the U.S. scientific community.

T.J. Dedeaux-Norris — associate professor in the UI School of Art, Art History, and Design and African American Studies, and area head of painting and drawing — is one of 35 recipients of the 2025–26 Rome Prize, a rigorous competition supporting innovative fellows in the arts, humanities, and sciences.

When Michael Welsh was a medical student at Iowa, a young patient with cystic fibrosis sparked his drive to learn more about the disease and find a treatment. Last week, the National Science Foundation issued a policy notice with a new 15% indirect cost rate to grants awarded to higher education institutions on or after May 5. In addition, the National Institutes of Health updated its policy on new foreign subawards, and the UI is awaiting further guidance on how the policy will be implemented on existing subaward agreements. - Cambus route 34 Research Park changing to improve rider convenience: Beginning Monday, May 19, route 34 Research Park will have a new route design and schedule, providing more direct and convenient service for riders. Stops north of Oakdale Boulevard will be served by the Cambus On-Demand Shuttle only.
- Learn more about connecting with teens in digital age: Join other parents and caregivers of teens to learn about and discuss strategies for connecting with teenagers in the digital age. The event will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 18, in the Iowa City Public Library.
