Black History Month 2025

Black History Month is observed every February in the U.S. Throughout the month of February, a variety of events and workshops are planned at the University of Iowa to recognize important contributions of Black Americans from a historical perspective. Visit the Black History Month homepage for the Zoom background, social media graphic, and a list of events on campus. 

Iowa City is one of 62 communities nationwide participating in the NEA Big Read. This event features a community-wide reading of the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison. Get your free copy of Beloved at pickup locations across Iowa City between Jan. 20 and Feb. 12, 2025.

 From February to May, our community will celebrate Beloved by Toni Morrison with a full calendar of events to be announced soon. 

Pride in Foodservice Week 2025

Pride in Foodservice Week will be celebrated February 3-7, 2025. This week of celebration encourages foodservice industry employees, employers, and friends to celebrate the vital work non-commercial nutrition and foodservice professionals perform on a daily basis. The Association of Nutrition & Foodservice Professionals has a survey that you can fill out and get an opportunity to win a $50 visa gift card! Click here or visit anfponline.org.

Question of the week

Question of the Week: After the assassination of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., who took over as the head of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC)?

For this weeks’ prize there is the potential for three winners.  We have two (2) tickets for each of the following events:

  • Men's wrestling, Iowa vs. Nebraska, Friday, February 7, 7 p.m.
  • Men’s basketball, Iowa vs. Wisconsin, Saturday, February 8, 12 p.m.
  • Women's basketball, Iowa vs. Rutgers, Thursday, February 13, 6:30 p.m.

Answer correctly to Carol at carol-rose@uiowa.edu or leave her a voice message at 319-353-2369 to be eligible for the drawing. Answers must be received by 8 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 4. Please identify which events you cannot attend and rank your preference of the events you can attend.
