Jessica Gorzelitz, assistant professor in the Department of Health, Sport, and Human Physiology, is helping lead a new P3 supported initiative that aims to support cancer recovery across Iowa. The project will establish the state’s first Exercise Oncology Clinic that will offer personalized exercise programs to improve health and fitness for cancer patients and survivors.

The UI continues to be recognized as the best public university for writing and communication in the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings. Funding appropriations for most federal agencies are set to expire at midnight on Tuesday, Sept. 30. At the September Iowa Board of Regents meeting, UI President Barbara Wilson shared an update on the university's nearly record setting enrollment and impressive first-year retention rate, now at 90.9%. She also outlined the new reSPARC committee, noting several past efficiencies, and this year's state appropriations request for $3.6M to recruit and support rural physicians in Iowa. The UI Museum of Natural History was awarded a $1 million grant from the National Science Foundation — the largest ever awarded to the Pentacrest Museums. The funding will help the UI preserve and digitize more than 140,000 irreplaceable insect and invertebrate specimens, some of which are more than a century old.

Finkbine Golf Course, home of the UI’s men’s and women’s golf teams, is about to embark on its most notable transformation since the course relocated in the early 1950s. The major renovation project is set to begin at the conclusion of the 2025 golf season and continue throughout 2026. Work will include modernizing the course's layout, improving playability for all skill levels, and incorporating sustainable turf technologies.

If you work downtown, please be aware that several streets will be closed Friday afternoon for the UI Homecoming Parade. The parade will begin at Washington and Gilbert streets, travel west on Washington, north on Clinton, east on Jefferson, south on Dubuque, east on Iowa Avenue, and will end at Iowa Avenue and Gilbert Street.
