Christopher Merrill, longtime director of the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program, has announced he will step down at the end of the year. Since 2000, Merrill has led the charge on transformational partnerships and championed literary exchange. Cate Dicharry, former executive associate director of operations for IWP, will become the program’s director in January.

Community members will have access to UI Health Care’s family medicine services at a new location later this year. Patients will begin receiving care on Monday, Dec. 15, at 2751 Northgate Drive on the east side of Iowa City. While the department will maintain some presence at the university campus, 200 Hawkins Drive, most services will move to the new location.

The Savannah Bananas — a professional exhibition baseball team that plays its own version of baseball called “Banana Ball” — will play games on July 3 and 4 at Kinnick Stadium. Fans interested in purchasing tickets are encouraged to join the ticket lottery before it closes on Friday, Oct. 31.

As an Iowa football defensive end, freshman Iose Epenesa is carrying on a family legacy of Hawkeye football players. His father, Eppy Epenesa, grew up in American Samoa before coming to Iowa to play football under coach Hayden Fry. Through family workouts while growing up, Eppy’s sons — A.J., Eric, and Iose — followed in his footsteps.
