During the past 20 years or so, Dr. Fang Qian from the college's Biostatistics and Computational Biology unit has conducted approximately 80% of the statistical analyses for the Student Research Program. In recognition of her efforts, student researchers voted UNANIMOUSLY to recognize her efforts with an “Honorary Student Research Mentor” award.

A new and updated textbook in dental public health, Burt and Eklund's Denistry, Dental Practice, and the Community, was recently released by Elsevier in association with the American Association of Public Health Dentistry. Iowa is strongly represented among the authors of various chapters, which speaks to Iowa's role as a leader in the field of dental public health. Although the main university campus plans to "move to online instruction after Thanksgiving, beginning Nov. 30, and final exams will be delivered remotely," the College of Dentistry, a health science college and health care facility, will continue to deliver instruction as planned after Thanksgiving (see COD Fall Education Plan; log-in required). Dentistry students and residents are returning to campus after Thanksgiving to complete the fall semester in person. Testing of patients for COVID-19 is available at the College of Dentistry on a limited basis. The purpose of the testing is to allow dental residents to safely provide aerosol-producing procedures in open operatories when access to closed operatories is not available. The hope is that future expansion will include pre-doctoral patients. Details are available on the College of Dentistry website.

Everyone in our building must wear a mask at all times, and masks must be worn properly. Employees are allowed to remove their masks only if they are alone in a private office. These precautions are important for keeping our staff, patients, and community safe.
