The annual workshops draw emerging and established artists from across the country. Attendees participate in courses taught by expert faculty, a lecture series, open portfolio sessions, and an array of gallery exhibitions in the Visual Arts Building.

These innovative designs were exhibited at the prestigious ICFF x WantedDesign Launch Pad this year. | | | | Sculpture & Intermedia's spring 2026 Fantastic Drawing Machines class designed kinetic art objects, creating mock-ups for their own fantastical machines.
These designs were passed on to engineering students in Berlin, who will use specialized tools to create professional digital designs for fabrication.

@uiowa_sculpture_intermedia | | | Jewelry and Metal Arts students, faculty, and staff attended the SNAG x Detroit Conference in June, an international event highlighting jewelry and metalsmithing.
Graduate students and faculty presented The Iowa Idea at Adorned Spaces, a juried exhibition of curated shows highlighting work by both emerging and established artists.
The exhibition offered insight into the SAAHD's graduate-level metals pedagogy, facility-driven making, and expanded definitions of contemporary metal arts practice.
@uiowajewelrymetalarts | | | | Monica Correia (Professor, 3D Design) was selected for a prestigious Fulbright Scholar Award to France.
Correia will research seamless weaving methodologies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Industries Textiles (ENSAIT) GEMTEX Laboratory, University of Lille.
Her work will develop functional and sustainable textile design, reduce waste in manufacturing processes, and shape the weaving and upholstery courses she teaches.
monicacorreia.com | @monica_correia_design_ | | | Thalassa Raasch (Assistant Professor, Photography) was selected as a DSHB Humanities Scholar to conduct final research for their creative nonfiction manuscript In Over My Head which unearths the life of gravedigger Everard Hall, one of the last Americans to dig and fill graves by hand.
Raasch was also awarded an Arts and Humanities Initiative Grant to collaborate with graphic designer Elizabeth Goodspeed on the book design.
thalassaraasch.com | @thalassaraasch | | | | Ju Li Khaw (BA Computer Science and Graphic Design, 2008) always knew she wanted to be an animator.
Now she is living her dream as a Senior Animator for Video Games in Bellevue, WA, putting art in motion while paying close attention to detail.
Khaw has contributed to video games like Wolfenstein, Redfall, and Ghost of Yōtei, where she animated extra characters and animals.

In April 2026, Whetstone was promoted from visiting professor to Assistant Professor of Art and Graphic Design at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Professor Whetstone's research interests include graphic design, photography, and illustration.
rodrickwhetstone.com | @rdwhetstone | | | | Amelia Enskat (BFA Graphic Design 2026) and Shaun Mallonga (MFA Ceramics 2026) reflect on their time as Gallery Hosts at the Stanley Museum of Art, including hands-on professional development opportunities, invaluable collaborations with contemporary artists, and the community they built along the way.
While at the Stanley, Enskat completed a Museum Studies internship, and Mallonga worked with alum Jiha Moon to help install her expansive mural One An Other.

This major exhibition dedicated to Mendieta (MFA Intermedia 1977) presents her iconic works alongside newly remastered films, early paintings, and late sculptural pieces.
Active in the 1970s and early 80s, Mendieta posed profound questions throughout her work around displacement and identity, which remain highly relevant today. This exhibition shines a light on her trailblazing practice, reinforcing her standing as one of the most important artists of the 20th century.
