Dean's Message

With the 72nd annual meeting of the Iowa Section of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research around the corner, I would like to express my sincere thank you to those within our college who have been hard at work to make this event possible. It is a true group effort across multiple areas and there is so much work that happens behind the scenes to ensure a successful day. AADOCR Research Day is next week

Next Tuesday, February 11, is the 72nd annual meeting of the Iowa Section of the AADOCR. This meeting serves as a great opportunity for members of our college to share their research toward advancing oral health care. Dr. Aline Petrin and Dr. Karin Weber-Gasparoni will be our featured speakers, and our keynote speaker is Dr. Marcelo Araujo, dean of the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. Oral and poster presentations will follow and take place around the Dental Science Building.

Fiscal year deadline to replace Dome and Wordmark with block IOWA logo

As we approach the 5-year anniversary of adopting the block IOWA logo as our primary identifier, we want to ensure all materials align with current brand guidelines. To maintain consistency, please review and update materials in your area by June 30, 2025. This applies to letterheads, business materials, and any other documents where the outdated marks may still appear.

Dare to Discover: Alex Harper

Alex Harper, a fourth-year dental student, is featured in this year's Dare to Discover campaign. Mentored by Steven Levy, Harper is gaining insights into the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors concerning fluoride. This research fills a critical gap in the literature about the public's perception regarding fluoride use and community water fluoridation, especially among individuals in rural areas.

Is this cancer? Virtual CE course reminder

Join the College of Dentistry for a virtual CE course called “Is this cancer”, led by Dr. Nagamani Narayana, professor in Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine at University of Nebraska Medical Center, School of Dentistry on Feb. 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Learn to differentiate common lesions from oral cancer and other potentially malignant disorders. The course is $79 for 3.5 CEs.

Save The Date: IASDA's CoD Talent Show

The Iowa American Student Dental Association (IASDA) is excited to present this year’s College of Dentistry Talent Show on Friday, May 30, at the Coralville Center for Performing Arts. The event begins at 7 p.m. and admission is free. If you are interested in signing up for a performance slow, please fill out this Google form.

Info corner: After hours building use

Use of the Dental Science Building after hours must be reserved through Dental Facilities Services. An after hours/weekend form is to be completed at least one week before the event is to take place. The form can be filled out here and submitted through workflow. 

Campus Guests can now opt-in to Hawk Alert

Campus guests can now sign up to receive emergency notifications on a limited basis during their next visit to the University of Iowa. Whether visitors are on campus for a dental appointment, athletic event, visiting a student, or other activities, visitors will receive timely text message notifications about campus emergencies, safety instructions, and information about where to look for situation updates.
