The University of Iowa continues to maintain high enrollment, welcoming its second-largest first-year class in history this fall. With more students enrolling in popular and introductory courses, faculty members are adjusting their teaching methods and course structures to ensure that every student receives the support they need inside the classroom.

UI Health Care Stead Family Children's Hospital — Iowa's only nationally ranked children's hospital — was honored in six categories in the 2025-26 "Best Children's Hospitals" rankings published by U.S. News & World Report. Stead Family Children's Hospital has been ranked every year since U.S. News launched the children's hospital rankings in 2007.

Plans are underway to expand and transform the Tippie College of Business, adding 65,000 square feet and modernizing Gilmore Hall for the college’s use. Read more about the plans for the expansion project, as well as how the changes will benefit UI students, alumni, and the state of Iowa.

The UI has been recognized by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities as an Innovation and Economic Prosperity University, a national designation that recognizes the university’s strong support of economic and community development. The UI is now one of more than 90 higher education institutions nationally that have been given this designation.

More than a decade after he last stepped on the court as part of the Iowa men’s basketball team, Christopher Rickert is designing signature basketballs for a famous former Hawkeye. Rickert, a senior director of global product at Wilson Sporting Goods, worked with Caitlin Clark to create her Signature Series basketball line.

Hawkeye fans can get an up-close first look at the men’s and women’s basketball teams at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Hawkeyes Hoops from Downtown event. The free event will take place at the outdoor basketball court behind Burge Residence Hall. You will be able to see the players and coaches, participate in fan contests, and win prizes.

- Familiarize yourself with UI’s political activity, expression guidelines: The UI supports your constitutional right to express your personal opinions regarding political candidates and issues, but there are a few guidelines you need to remember as an employee of a public institution. Please review the UI’s political expression guidelines as Election Day approaches.
- What to do if an external law enforcement agent or other official comes to your workplace to serve a subpoena, search warrant, or otherwise request assistance: The UI is represented by the Office of General Counsel (OGC), which must review these types of requests before the university responds. Faculty and staff, including graduate assistants, post-doctoral scholars, and student employees, are not responsible for responding to these requests and should call UI Police or UI Health Care Safety and Security for assistance. - Duo Mobile will soon be required to log in to your UI accounts: The UI is removing text and phone call log-in options and will require the Duo Mobile app for all UI accounts by Nov. 4. Follow these step-by-step directions to get set up. For assistance setting up the Duo Mobile app, contact ITS Help Desk.
- Federal government shutdown: University leadership continues to monitor the federal government shutdown. New information will be published to the Federal Updates webpage when it is available.
- Funding available for teaching projects: The Innovations in Teaching with Technology Awards provide funding for instructional technology projects that have the potential to improve student success and retention. If you’ve been experimenting with new teaching approaches that involve technology, submit your proposals by Oct. 13.
- MidAmerican Energy utility upgrades underway on the west side of campus: MidAmerican Energy is installing new transmission lines to improve service to UI Health Care and the west side campus. Some portions of the recreation trail near Pearl Softball Field, Cretzmeyer Track, and Finkbine Golf Course may close temporarily during the project.
