College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics

Dean's Message

Nearly one year ago, the University of Iowa launched an ambitious fundraising campaign called Together Hawkeyes, which will bring Hawkeyes together for a common goal of bettering the lives of all Iowans and programs. For all of us in the College of Dentistry, I have divided our goals into four pillars: Faculty recruitment and retention, student wellness and success, a building for the future, and transformative clinic technologies. Supporting these four pillars ensures that the college continues to fulfill its mission of advancing oral health for the people of Iowa and beyond. I am proud to say that the college is in a fantastic spot as we are closing in on our goal of $32M (for 32 teeth). As we reach and eventually surpass our goal, every contribution will further enhance our ability to innovate, support our students and faculty, and improve our facilities. Every gift is an investment in the future of dental education and the health of our community. ~Clark Stanford

New Director of Digital Clinics to help transform dental education

Dr. Salah Abuhammoud was named the UI College of Dentistry's first Director of Digital Clinics in September, tasked with overseeing the integration and management of digital dentistry activities within the college. This new position allows the college to keep up with rapidly evolving technologies in dentistry.

Thank you IMOM volunteers!

Iowa Dentistry travels to American Academy of Cariology meeting

Members of the UI College of Dentistry traveled to the American Dental Association headquarters in Chicago on Sept.19-20 to participate in the American Academy of Cariology meeting. The strong Hawkeye contingency was highlighted by third-year student Jessica Grundmeyer, who was announced as one of two recipients of the 2024 AAC student research award, Dr. Rohit Nair's featured presentation titled, "Diagnosing and treating hyposalivation to reduce risk for dental caries," Dr. Sandra Guzman-Armstrong concluding her term as Past-President, and Dr. Teresa Marshall completing her three-year term on the board.

“I always remember something that Dr. Denehy taught us when we were grad students, he said you could be excellent, but the patients don't know how much you know, but they know how much you care. Here, we care for our patients."

Nominate someone for the Regents Award for Faculty Excellence

Nominations are open for the Regents Award for Faculty Excellence. Established in 1990, the University of Iowa selects up to six faculty members each year to recognize and share with colleagues from each institution, and who will receive a one-time award of $1,500. Recipients must have a sustained record of excellence across teaching, scholarship, and service or outstanding accomplishments in one or more of the areas to justify selection. Upcoming CE Course – Let’s talk about weed

Since 2017, the Iowa Medical Cannabis Program has provided highly-regulated cannabis products for qualifying medical conditions. This session will review the history of Iowa’s law, the current structure of the program, and the impacts of medical cannabis in lieu of federal regulations. Register through our CE portal.

Kudos to you!

Mary B’s Google Review: "The College of Dentistry is the best! The staff is very friendly and cordial. They work in a timely manner. You will be in and out before you know it. And you will want to return for all of your dental services. I got a tooth pulled and didn't even know that the dentist had removed it yet. Wow! That is how great they are. Outstanding services. I recommend the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics worldwide. If you are ever planning to visit Iowa and need dental work; you should check out this dentist. They are the very best. And that is the honest truth!"
