A new University of Iowa-led study, published in the journal Science, found that wildfire-driven air pollution has reversed years of progress in reducing ozone pollution across much of the U.S., including the Midwest. The research shows how smoke from distant fires can affect air quality far from the source and has contributed to hundreds of premature deaths since 2013.

A UI research team is exploring a new way to pull water from the air using sunlight. The discovery from the team — which includes Leonard MacGillivray, adjunct professor in the UI Department of Chemistry, and graduate student Nevindee Samararathne Muhandiramge — could one day support communities facing limited access to clean water.

The UI is seeking permission from the Iowa Board of Regents to plan two major athletics facilities projects: construction of a new field hockey facility adjacent to Grant Field that will enhance student-athlete support and a major modernization of Carver-Hawkeye Arena that will improve the fan experience. The board will consider the projects at its June meeting.

The UI Athletics Department and Iowa Letterwinners Club announced its 2026 Hall of Fame class, made up of seven former student-athletes in a range of sports.
