Welcome to the Spring 2024 semester!

ADDING AND DROPPING COURSES during the second week of classes, the drop and add processes may be initiated on MyUI, but you will need additional permissions. 

  • For adds, you will need to email and receive permission from the instructor/department and primary advisor. 
  • For dropsyou will need your primary advisor’s permission. 
  • Always finalize your registration change on MyUI after all permissions are granted (within 24 hours when adding a course). 

After Jan. 29: You may still drop a semester-length course with a “W” until April 15.

DWLLC Scholarship 24-25

The Division of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures is excited to announce its summer and fall 2024 and spring 2025 scholarship opportunities!

Most applications are submitted through uiowa.academicworks.com. The scholarship applications will be open January 1, 2024-March 18, 2024.


Translation Social

The Translate Iowa Project and Translation Program would like to invite you to a Welcome Back Social on Sunday, January 28th from 1pm - 2pm in the Center for Language and Culture Learning (120 PH). 

Come join us for a fun social hour with students who share of love of language! You can learn about the Translate Iowa Project and what they do (https://translateiowaproje.wixsite.com/website ), including translate-a-thons and the publication that they issue, Boundless.

You can also learn more about the translation major and minor if you are interested, and discover how easy it is to add a second or third major to your current areas of study!

Reserve a Study Room in the CLCL

The CLCL has Study Rooms that are equipped with video recording technology and post-production software Camtasia. These rooms also serve as a quiet, private place to work and study. We have a Multimedia Room (PH 120D) that is equipped with podcasting equipment as well as OBS (One Button Studio) equipment. To reserve any room, stop in at the PH 120 front desk.

South Asian Languages Study Abroad

The American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS) is now accepting applications for our 2024-25 summersemester, and academic year language programs. AIIS offers intensive, immersion-based instruction in over 15 modern and classical South Asian languages at multiple sites in India. Full fellowships are available for qualified applicants to the fall semester and academic year programs.

12th Annual Fulbright Intensive Workshop

Are you interested in doing graduate study, research or creative work, or teaching English abroad—free of charge (U.S. citizens only)? Join International Programs for the 12th annual intensive Fulbright U.S. Student Program workshop to be held via Zoom. This session will cover application basics for undergraduate and graduate applicants from all fields. Juniors, seniors, and graduate students applying in 2024 should plan to attend; first-year students and sophomores are welcome.

2nd Annual GIC UNHCR Student Challenge

Registration is now open for the 2nd Annual GIC UNHCR Student Challenge! Students are invited to join teams of college students from around the world for a competition culminating in the finals in London, England during the 2024 Global Internship Conference.

CIEE is pleased to collaborate once again with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to call on student leaders from across the globe to present their solution ideas to support increasing access to higher education and livelihood for forcibly displaced youth around the world. UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights, and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities, and stateless people.

The Prize

  • Student teams could earn a trip to London, a CIEE-facilitated global internship in summer 2025, and an opportunity to have their solution ideas be selected to be shared with UNHCR and their networks.

Student team registration is open until February 9, 2024. Register early to secure your spot!

Frederick Douglass-Daniel O'Connell Global Internship

10 exceptional student leaders will be selected for a transformative summer internship program in Dublin, Ireland, where they will draw inspiration from the legacies of two remarkable social justice leaders: Frederick Douglass and Daniel O'Connell. 

Co-sponsored by CIEE, the Government of Ireland, and the African American Irish Diaspora Network all program costs are covered, including housing and airfare. Students will also receive a stipend for their time on the program. 

Eligibility Requirements 

We invite applications from 1st, 2nd or 3rd year students, with a GPA of 3.0 or above who are Pell Grant eligible. The application is online and due on February 1. 

As part of our commitment to expanding access to an international education, CIEE offers a $1500 Frederick Douglass-Daniel O’Connell Scholars Grant towards any in-person CIEE Global Internship around the world to all applicants who submit an application and meet all eligibility requirements but are not selected for the Internship program.
