Public Policy Center Receives Renewal Funding from CareQuest Institute for Oral Health

The Patient-Centered Dental Home project, housed at the UI Public Policy Center, has been underway for several years with the goal of defining a patient-centered dental home model of care and quality measurement framework that facilitates dental care quality measurement and improvement across multiple care settings as well as medical-dental integration. Initial project phases focused on developing the definition and conceptual framework for a patient-centered dental home, and we recently released an online PCDH Clearinghouse of approximately 500 oral health quality measures and standards.

The project was recently awarded $185,000 in renewal funding, which will support completing development of the PCDH framework and beginning the implementation stage by developing PCDH measure sets and laying the groundwork for pilot implementation. This critical phase of the project creates the bridge from the conceptual framework development to actual implementation.

Julie Reynolds, assistant professor in Preventive and Community Dentistry, and Pete Damiano, director of the Public Policy Center and the Bernstein Professor in Dentistry are co-PIs on the project.

Aline Petrin Featured in AADOCR Spotlight

The American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) has been conducting member spotlight interviews, and the AADOCR has highlighted several Iowa-affiliated faculty and staff members. Over the next several weeks, the DSB Weekly will highlight these spotlights. This week's is Aline Petrin, assistant professor in the Department of Orthodontics. An excerpt is below.

"AADOCR: You have been selected as a mentee for the 2021-22 class of the AADOCR Mentoring an Inclusive Network for a Diverse Workforce of the Future (AADOCR MIND the Future), congratulations! What motived you to apply for this program?
Petrin: I am honored to be selected as a mentee for the 2021-22 class. As a junior faculty, I believe that the program will provide me the mentorship and training to focus on my short- and long-term career goals by giving me the support to develop into an independent researcher. Plus, this mentoring network will be important to my progression to achieve tenure by the development of a high-quality funded program as an independent scientist."
