Welcome to the Spring 2025 semester!

The Division of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (DWLLC) Newsletter is emailed to all students with majors or minors housed in DWLLC. In these newsletters, you will find a variety of information that will connect you to events, resources, funding, and internships/volunteer opportunities. 

ADDING AND DROPPING COURSES 

  • The first week of classes (1/21-1/27) is the easiest time to a make a schedule change
    • Add, drop, or change existing registration on MyUI, no permissions required
  • Starting on January 28:
    • Last Day to Add a Course without College Approval: Monday, February 3

      • For adds, you will also need permission from the instructor/department & primary advisor.  You can find the complete instructions hereOnce you have obtained the permissions, you will need to complete the add in MyUI. Make sure you see the added course in your Fall 24 course list.

    • Last Day to DROP a Course without a WMonday, February 3rd
      • For Drops, you will need primary advisor permission available here. Once you have obtained permission to drop, you will need to complete the drop in MyUI. Make sure the course is no longer in your Fall 23 course list.
    • Last day to last day to drop individual course(s) for tuition and fees adjustment: Monday, February 3rd (This only applies to students who are taking less than 12sh and paying by semester hour. Full-time students taking 12-18sh pay a flat rate.)
    • Last Day to request P/N Grading for a Fall course: Monday, February 3rd
      • Full info available here

After Feb 3rd: You may still drop a semester-length course with a “W” until April 21st

Organization Fair and Engagement Fest Spring 2025

The 2025 Student Organization Fair is part of Engagement Fest

  • Date: Tuesday, Jan. 28th, 2025
  • Time: 4-6 pm
  • Location: Iowa Memorial Union

Why join a student organization?

  • Meet friends with similar, or differing, interests
  • Learn about new activities and ways of thinking
  • Participate in cultural, sports, political, or entertainment activities
  • Run for positions in the organization
  • Build skills and your resume

On the day of the event

  • Find the list of organizations below
  • Think about what might interest you, and what might challenge you to Excel, Stretch, Choose, Engage, or Serve (the Iowa Challenge)
  • Can't make it? That's okay! Set up an advising appointment to learn more about how you can engage during your time at Iowa. 

13th Annual Fulbright Intensive U.S. Student Program Workshop

Would you like to teach English, study, or do research or creative work abroad for an academic year at no cost to you (U.S. citizens only)? Join International Programs at the University of Iowa for the 13th Annual Fulbright Intensive U.S. Student Program Workshop on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, from 9:30–11:30 a.m. CST via Zoom. This session will feature current UI Fulbright awardees who will join us from abroad and introduce the staff and faculty who support UI student applicants. We will also cover application basics for undergraduate, graduate, and alumni applicants from all fields. Juniors, seniors, graduate students, and alumni applying in 2025 should plan to attend; first-year students and sophomores are welcome.

Hawkeye Experience Grant

Hawkeye Experience Grant awards stipends in variable amounts for undergraduate students at the University of Iowa who are involved in applied learning experiences outside of the classroom such as internships (unpaid or underpaid), internships abroad through study abroad, community engagement/community service, research or creative scholarship.

Spanish Club Seeks Board Members! Apply Now!

The Spanish Club is recruiting board members for Spring 2025:

Are you interested in a leadership opportunity that allows you to share your knowledge and love of the Spanish language? The Spanish Club is looking to fill three open positions for the spring semester, and you're invited to apply! Information about the positions can be found in the application form, and you will be fully trained for any position you're selected for. The expected time commitment is 1-2 hours per week.
