Advising Info

  • Winter 2022, Spring 2023 and Summer 2023 courses are now live on MyUI.
  • Use the IS course database to find courses that fulfill global perspectives, world cultures, or optional concentration requirements (Fall 2021+ major) or foundation or track courses (Prior to Fall 2021 majors). 
  • To discuss your spring 2023 courses and be authorized to register, please schedule an appointment with your IS advisor before your registration time. 
  • Early registration for Winter and Spring is November 7-18 and November 28 - December 2. (Your registration time will be available on MyUI starting October 17.) 
  • November 14--Deadline to drop a full-semester course with a W

Orientation Leader Applications Due October 16

Position Description: Serving as an Orientation Leader is a great way to share Hawkeye Pride and a chance to gain valuable professional skills! OLs work during the summer to welcome new students and their families to campus by facilitating small groups, serving on panels, and more! The OL position will be around 30 hours per week from May 8 – July 14th with flexibility to take a summer class or hold another job. Orientation Leaders will also be required to work during On Iowa! with flexibility for those who may have a prior commitment that week (i.e. employed as an RA, in Hawkeye Marching Band, etc.)

Why should students apply to be an Orientation Leader?

  • A great way to gain public speaking, leadership, and time management skills that you can use in any professional career path you decide to take
  • OLs get to welcome new students to campus and connect them to resources
  • A great way to share your passion for Iowa with new students

Apply by October 16 to Become an Iowa Edge Peer Leader 

Are you interested in serving as a mentor for incoming University of Iowa students?

Do you want to help build community and networks of mutual support on campus?

If you said yes to either question, then you should consider applying to be a Peer Leader for the Iowa Edge program. Students who wish to serve as a Peer Leader for the first time in August of 2023 can apply by uploading their resume to Handshake (Job #6967082).

Candidates would interview the week of October 17-21 in-person in the Center for Inclusive Academic Excellence.

Candidates who are selected for a position will need to participate in a 1-semester hour, 10-week spring course (CIAE:2013 Iowa Edge New Peer Leader Training) during the spring 2023 semester.

Bridging Domestic and Global Diversity: Apply by October 21!

Bridging Domestic and Global Diversity is a semester-long leadership training program designed to increase intercultural awareness and skills, while enhancing understanding and connection through diversity. Focus is on increasing self-awareness while building intercultural leadership skills.

The program brings together undergraduate and graduate/professional domestic and international students at the University of Iowa. Students selected to participate in the Bridge program will be one of approximately 25 UI students identified to receive intercultural and diversity leadership training.

Participants work in small multicultural groups to plan the Bridge Open Forum - an intercultural program planned and facilitated by the participants to inform the campus community about intercultural issues.

Bridging Domestic and Global Diversity program will be in-person in the Spring 2023 semester. Sessions are scheduled for Thursdays 3:30-4:45 p.m. each week in the International Commons 1117 UCC. There is no fee and you do not receive academic credit.

LGBTQ+ History Month

LGBTQ+ History Month is a monthlong celebration that occurs in October to observe lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer history. It also honors the ongoing history of queer and trans rights.
