The Legal Writing Institute/Wake Forrest Clerkship College

Calling all 3Ls! The Legal Writing Institute, in partnership with the Program for Leadership and Character at Wake Forest University School of Law, is pleased to announce the 2024 Clerkship College, a virtual training webinar for current and prospective judicial clerks. The two day seminar will feature training sessions focused on principles of leadership and legal writing skills–two hallmarks of a successful clerkship experience.

Throughout the two-day program, which will be held on Zoom, attendees will engage with judges, law clerks, practitioners, and law professors on the following topics:

  • The Importance of "Purpose" for Judicial Clerks and Legal Professionals

Fellowships and Mentorship Opportunities

Immigrant Justice Corp 2025 Fellowship

Each year IJC awards Justice Fellowships to recent law graduates from around the country – individuals with tremendous talent, promise, and a demonstrated commitment to providing legal services for low-income people and immigrants.

IJC trains Justice Fellows to become experts in immigration law and pairs them with leading non-profit legal services providers and community-based organizations. IJC matches selected Fellows with our partnering host organizations based on the applicant’s experience and interest, gaps in services within the community, location interests, and partnering host organizations’ needs. 

Justice Fellows represent immigrants in an array of immigration matters including:

  • Removal defense
  • Affirmative asylum applications
  • Relief available to juveniles and victims of crime, domestic violence, or human trafficking

Justice Fellow General Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants may be 3Ls or currently enrolled in an LLM program, graduating law school by the spring of 2025
  • Applicants must have graduated no earlier than Spring 2023
  • At the time of selection must have authorization to work in the United States for two years

Ford Foundation Fellowship in Nonprofit Law 

The Ford Foundation Fellowship in Nonprofit Law permits a Fellow each year to spend a year in residence at the Ford Foundation’s Office of Legal Services in New York, working with the General Counsel and staff of attorneys to provide legal advice on grantmaking, operations, governance, human resources, and investments.  The Fellow will also work closely with the foundation’s Grants Compliance department and engage with program and operations staff in New York and ten global offices on a variety of initiatives and special projects.

A Fellowship at the Ford Foundation will provide a recent law school graduate with exposure to an unusually wide variety of domestic and international legal issues encountered by private foundations operating globally.

McLean County Bar Association Scholarship 2024-2025

The McLean County Bar Association (MCBA) is announcing a $2,500 scholarship for eligible second or third year law school students with strong ties to and an expressed interest or intent to practice law in McLean County, Illinois. The MCBA reserves the right, in exceptional cases, to divide the scholarship equally between two candidates.      

Applicants for the MCBA Community Service law school scholarship should demonstrate a commitment to McLean County, Bloomington-Normal and/or its surrounding communities through residency in the county, through academic ties to local schools or through past or future employment. Prime candidates will express and demonstrate a commitment to legal aid work, pro bono activities and/or community service.

National Center on Philanthropy and the Law (NCPL) Fellowship in Nonprofit Law

The NCPL Fellowship in Nonprofit Law permits one Fellow each year to spend a year in residence at a nonprofit organization. The 2025-2026 Fellow will work closely with senior staff and staff attorneys at Lawyers Alliance for New York (Lawyers Alliance) who have practice specialties that will expose the Fellow to a broad range of disciplines that address the legal needs of nonprofit organizations. Given the varied nature of the legal work performed by Lawyers Alliance and the diverse group of nonprofit organizations it represents, the NCPL Fellow will experience the widest possible exposure to representing nonprofit organizations on interesting and complex legal projects. These legal challenges will enable the NCPL Fellow to develop relevant skills to the maximum extent. Arizona Handbook

The Government Honors & Internship Handbook (for law students and graduates) and the Public Policy Handbook (for graduate and undergraduate students interested in public policy analysis and implementation) have been in publication since 2001 and 2005. Public Defender Mentorship Program

The Iowa State Public Defender will offer a Monday Mentors program beginning at 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 or later if warranted.  It will take place every Monday thereafter at the same time and via the same zoom link provided below.  The idea is to provide a time for young public defenders, contract attorneys, and aspiring law students to ask questions whether related to a specific case, criminal defense in general, or career questions, and obtain feedback and guidance from others similarly situated and from defense attorneys with years of experience. Breakout rooms will be provided as needed to facilitate communication.  We hope you take advantage of this program. If you are interested in public defense, and cannot make the Monday meetings, please reach out to Kimberly DePalma at kdepalma@spd.state.ia.us.

2025-2027 FAIR Fellowship - California Employment Lawyers Association

The FAIR Fellowship is a unique 18-month fellowship that enables a new attorney to work full-time for two consecutive terms: 12 months at Legal Aid at Work (remotely) and six months at a plaintiff-side employment law firm affiliated with the California Employment Lawyers Association (CELA), an organization of more than 1,200 workers’ rights advocates throughout California. FAIR will fund the successful FAIR Fellow’s salary during the first 12 months the Fellow is working at Legal Aid at Work. While at Legal Aid at Work, the FAIR Fellow is included in the bargaining unit represented by ESC Local 20. During the 12 months at Legal Aid At Work, the FAIR Fellow can perform work remotely from anywhere in California with a possible stipend from LAAW to travel to San Francisco to visit with LAAW supervisors. The applicant will then be matched with a CELA-affiliated private law firm for the last six months and be paid a salary and benefits by that firm. That firm is required to pay a minimum salary of $7,500 per month.

1. Fellowship Application Form (enclosed).

2. Resume.

3. Unofficial Law School Transcript.

4. Two Letters of Recommendation (preference for employers and/or clinical professors). Recommendation letters should be addressed to ‘FAIR Fellowship Selection Committee’, and emailed directly to: caity@fair-foundation.org

5. Two References (references can be the same people who wrote letters of recommendation or someone else).

6. One Writing Sample (no more than ten pages double-spaced).

7. Personal Essay: ~500 words detailing your background, how you became committed to having a public interest career, and your interest in employment law. We encourage applicants to share how your lived experiences have shaped you generally and/or your desire to work in the field of employment law.

Summer 2025 Remote Internship - Penguin Random House

The Penguin Random House (PRH) Legal Department is seeking a first-year law student for a Summer 2025 internship. In line with PRH’s mission to ignite a universal passion for reading by creating books for everyone and our company’s commitment to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within the legal profession, applicants from underrepresented backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

Interns will be exposed to a wide range of legal disciplines, including defamation, copyright, right of publicity, privacy, trademark, and commercial law. They will conduct legal research, review books for legal concerns, draft contracts, and assist PRH’s legal team in tackling the variety of challenges associated with being the world’s largest publisher of English language books.

Interns work four days a week (Monday through Thursday) for ten weeks. The program is run out of PRH’s New York Headquarters but offers remote flexibility. Compensation is $21 per hour. Here are all of the specific program details:

  • Fully remote program
  • 10-week duration starting from June 9, 2025 – August 18, 2025
  • Pay is $21/hr
  • 28 hours a week
  • Weekly virtual programming will be available for interns to learn about different departments within the company
