Greetings CoE staff and supervisors:

The College of Engineering is committed to supporting the development of staff as they grow within their role and continue to expand their professional knowledge.  Furthermore, a desire for more employee recognition and professional development are recurring themes in the Working At Iowa survey and other feedback channels.

To that end, two college wide processes are now available to support more deliberate, transparent, and equitable staff development.

Career Development

Under UI policy, regular P&S staff are eligible for career development actions, which include promotions, career advancements and career shifts (reclassifications).

To request one of these actions within the CoE, the supervisor or the employee should complete a Career Development Request. This form helps ensure a timely and consistent review, and equal opportunity for all staff to be considered for a career development action. The CoE has established a central pool of funds for any salary increases associated with these types of actions, so units will no longer need to plan for or otherwise secure the necessary funding.

Professional Development

The CoE has also established a central pool of funds dedicated to the professional development of staff.  When staff wish to attend training or a conference that has an associated cost, they should review the eligibility/criteria, and, if applicable,  complete a Staff Professional Development Request. This process applies for both in person and virtual events.

Thank you to those staff in several units who helped shape these processes and provided feedback in their development.  Questions may be directed to Cathy Koebrick (Cathy-Koebrick@uiowa.edu) or April Tippett (April-tippett@uiowa.edu).
