UI holds top public nursing, writing programs in ‘US News’ rankings

The University of Iowa again tied for the No. 1 spot in undergraduate nursing programs among public universities, while also offering the best public writing program in the country, in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings. Iowa also appeared for the first time among the best in the undergraduate insurance category, ranking No. 8.

Iowa’s premier writing programs and resources have been preparing graduates for success in many fields for years — and Iowa remains one of the top universities for writing in the country. In the most recent U.S. News & World Report rankings, Iowa was the No. 1 public school for writing and communications across disciplines.

Tranel honored for decades of nurturing neuroscience, neuroscientists at Iowa 

For more than four decades, Dan Tranel, the F. Wendell Miller Professor in Psychology and Brain Sciences, has been instrumental in growing neuroscience at Iowa and beyond. He leads the Iowa Neurological Patient Registry, one of the largest research repositories of its kind and a unique resource used by neuroscientists around the world, and he has nurtured the careers of hundreds of young neuroscientists.

If you work on the east side of campus and still need to get your annual flu vaccine, the university is hosting a clinic from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today in room 2390 (executive board room) of University Capitol Centre. Can’t make it? A list of additional clinics can be found on the University Human Resources website.

Funding available for innovative teaching projects

The Innovations in Teaching with Technology Awards provide funding for instructional technology projects that have the potential to improve student success and retention. A total of $100,000 is available for awards. If you’ve been experimenting with new teaching approaches that involve technology, submit your proposals by Oct. 15.

Rong Su, Tippie College of Business associate professor, helped develop two research-based assessments — Comprehensive Inventory of Thriving and Brief Inventory of Thriving — to help people better gauge their overall well-being and mental wellness.
