Improving Scholarly Communication Series

The Improving Scholarly Communications sessions are a three-part series designed to provide you strategies to improve the clarity of your scholarly communications, both written and oral. These workshops are hosted by Paul Casella and will take place throughout summer 2024. All sessions will be hosted in the University Capitol Centre.

Maximizing Pivot to Find Funding and Collaborators

Do you want to maximize your time spent searching for funding opportunities or potential project collaborators? Join us either virtually by Zoom or in-person in the University Capitol Centre on an upcoming date below to learn how Pivot can save you time and effort in identifying the right funding opportunities for your research lines as well as identifying collaborators with the relevant expertise.

Connect Your Researchers to Funding Opportunities: Pivot Administrative Features

Are you looking for ways to assist researchers with identifying grant funding opportunities? Are you wanting to learn more about the enhanced administrative features of Pivot? Join us for an information and demonstration session that will introduce Pivot Administrative Features. Topics covered will include crafting and saving funding opportunity searches, creating calendars and newsletters, sharing and tracking opportunities, editing profiles, enabling weekly email alerts, and the new process of entering internal funding opportunities. We will also discuss how to request access to the additional administrative privileges.

When: Wednesday, August 21 from 11am-12pm.

Eligibility: All Research Support Staff

NIH K Club+

In collaboration with the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science’s K Club, the NIH K Club+ is designed to give you the knowledge and resources to craft competitive K award applications. Club participants will take part in events and services including editing and review services. The RDO is hosting a virtual information session on Friday, September 13 from 9:00am-9:30am. This event is an introduction to this year's NIH K Club+. Register here by September 12 to attend the information session.

Write Winning Grant Proposals Seminar

The RDO is pleased to partner with Dr. John Robertson from Grant Writers' Seminars & Workshops (GWSW) to conduct the Write Winning Grant Proposals Phase I seminar that will be held on Friday, September 20 at 8:30am-4:30pm in the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU). The Phase I seminar is a pre-requisite to the Phase II Intensive Workshop that is scheduled for January 7-8, 2025. See the webpage for more details.

AHI Unveiled: AHI Insights and Opportunities

Join us virtually on Tuesday, September 24 from 9am-10am to learn about the Arts & Humanities Initiative (AHI) program, hear from past reviewers, and have your questions answered.  The AHI program is an internal funding program within the Office of the Vice President for Research that encourages leading edge scholarship, creative activities, and interdisciplinary research.  Next application deadline: Tuesday, October 22, 2024

DEPSCoR Panel Session

The Research Development Office is hosting a virtual DOD EPSCoR (DEPSCoR) panel session on Wednesday, September 25 from 10am-11am. Several UI members recently attended the DEPSCoR Day Outreach Event on April 25 at the University of Oklahoma. This panel session will provide an opportunity to hear from three faculty attendees regarding their experiences from the event, insights gathered for expanding their research activities, need-to-know information, and answer your questions.

Spring 2024 NSF Grants Conference Recordings

The hybrid Spring 2024 NSF Grants Conference took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania June 3-5, 2024.  If you missed the conference, recorded conference sessions are now available on the NSF's Policy Office Outreach website in the Resource Center.  Additionally, you may view the recordings on their YouTube page.
