Updated Resources for 2025 NIH Applications
Various changes are coming to NIH applications and peer review in 2025. The effective date for most of those changes and the first application due date to require updated application forms and instructions (FORMS-I) was January 25, 2025.
NIH issues a request for applications to the Trailblazer Award for New and Early Stage Investigators program (R21)
This program aims to help PIs pursue research programs that integrate engineering and the physical sciences with the life and/or biomedical sciences. A Trailblazer project may be exploratory, developmental, proof of concept, or high risk-high impact, and may be technology design-directed, discovery-driven, or hypothesis-driven. Importantly, applicants must propose research approaches for which there are minimal or no preliminary data. | | | Limited Submission Opportunities | | Description: The FES Discovery Plasma Science: Plasma Science and Technology–General Plasma Science (GPS) program seeks new or renewal single-investigator or small-group applications to carry out hypothesis-driven frontier-level research in basic plasma science and engineering. This program aims to develop accurate descriptions of the complex behavior of the plasma state, to push it into new regimes that expand our concept of what constitutes a plasma, to design experiments and diagnostics to explore these states, and to validate theoretical models. This NOFO is focused on fundamental research involving plasma including astrophysical, dusty, and low temperature plasmas. Research toward developing plasma-based technologies is out of scope of this NOFO.

| Description: The DOE SC programs announce their interest in receiving applications from interdisciplinary teams to establish partnerships under the Scientific Discovery through Advanced Computing (SciDAC) program in specific targeted topic areas that relate to the BES and ASCR missions. Partnerships between domain scientists in the fields of materials science, condensed matter physics, chemical sciences, geosciences, energy-related biosciences, applied mathematics, and computer science will be critical to accelerate the scientific discovery process through revolutionary advances in models, mathematics, algorithms, data, and computing. Applications must focus on one of three topics: 1) Complex dynamical systems for energy-relevant chemical and/or physical systems and materials, 2) Reliable and explainable Artificial Intelligence for chemical and/or physical mechanism extraction from phenomena, and 3) Foundation Models for chemical and materials sciences.

| | Description: The DRP reimburses certain costs incurred by eligible entities that have provided uncompensated or partially uncompensated oral health care to people with HIV during a specified one-year period. Funds among eligible applicants will be distributed by considering the number of patients with HIV served and the unreimbursed oral health care costs incurred by each eligible applicant as compared with the total number of patients served and costs incurred by all eligible applicants.

Under the program, we provide start-up funding to grant recipients to create rural residency programs that are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). These residency programs are then sustained long-term through viable and stable funding mechanisms, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and other public or private funding sources. Ultimately, this funding opportunity aims to address physician workforce shortages and challenges faced by rural communities.
