Advising Update

  1. January 24, 2022 (today) = Last day to add and drop semester-length sp22 courses on MyUI with no permissions needed!
  2. January 31, 2022 = Last day to add a semester length sp22 course, and drop a semester-length sp22 course without a W.  Initiate the add/drop in MyUI, then email for permissions. More info here.
  3. February 1, 2022 = Fall 2022 courses are scheduled to be on MyUI.
  4. February 25, 2022 = Deadline to contract as honors a sp22 course.
  5. February 25, 2022 = Deadline to apply for a spring 2022 degree in MyUI to avoid a fee.

Gaining International Experiences when Study Abroad is not Available: Wednesday, January 26, 2022 / Noon/ Zoom

Through a project of creating podcasts in her International Business Environment course (IBE), Professor Erin Johnson fosters the development of her students’ cultural intelligence by leveraging technology to engage students with this experience. Working in small groups, students conducted field research and interviews, analyzed their findings, and crafted a series of persuasive podcasts .In this session, Professor Johnson and her students will share their experiences with this project.  ICFRC Event Link here.

Lunar New Year Celebration: Thursday, February 3, 2022 / 5:30 - 7:00PM/ Zoom

 This year's webinar will feature past and present students, faculty members and friends of the University of Iowa from all over the world to celebrate this special day. Enjoy cooking demonstrations and discussions of special New Year foods, greetings from alumni and students and panel discussions with faculty members who will share their thoughts about the Lunar New Year/Spring Festival. UI Center for Advancement Summer Internships

The University of Iowa Center for Advancement (UICA) will host 11 summer internships: two in the development field; and one each in prospect research and communications. Students must be a current University of Iowa student with a strong interest in fundraising or one of the specific fields listed. Preference will be given to current sophomores, juniors, and first-semester seniors; May 2022 graduates may also be considered. More info here.

Summer Health Professions Education Program

The application for the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) is now open and due on February 5th, 2022. SHPEP is a free summer enrichment program focused on improving access to information and resources for college students interested in the health professions. Williams Fellowship Program 2022-23

Through private funding, the UICA established the Williams Fellowship Program to provide an educational and professional experience for a graduate interested in exploring a potential career within advancement. The fellow will have the opportunity to understand how their own experience as a student has been affected by private support and will also learn about the impact of philanthropy and engagement at Iowa, in higher education more broadly, and at a national and global level.

 

Scholarships, Funding, and Resources

Apply for a Student Impact Grant

The University of Iowa Office of the President and the University of Iowa Student Advancement Network (SAN) have partnered to create Student Impact Grants, which provide funding for a variety of undergraduate and graduate student activities outside of the classroom, such as research, travel, and service projects. The goal is to enable students to pursue opportunities that might not otherwise be possible without financial assistance. Applications will be considered for funding to be used during the summer and fall 2022 semesters. A maximum of $7,000 in total grants will be awarded. Grant amounts will range from $100-$1,000 awards. The application deadline is February 18th. For more information, click here.

Scholarships through GWSS

STEPHEN LYNN SMITH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR SOCIAL JUSTICETwo awards of $3000 each will be given to students demonstrating a commitment to the principles of social justice and progress.

ADAH JOHNSON/OTILIA MARIA FERNANDEZ SCHOLARSHIPOne award of $1500 will be awarded to an undergraduate woman student of color who has taken courses in the Gender, Women’s & Sexuality Studies Department or whose academic interests include some aspect of women’s culture or experience.
