The CDC releases the Special Interest Project Funding Opportunity for Prevention Research Centers.

The Prevention Research Centers program office at the CDC has released its list of 2024 Special Interest Projects (SIPS). It is anticipated that up to 28 awards will be made under this NOFO for the 13 proposals and will start September 30, 2024. These funding opportunities are available only to the Prevention Research Centers in the US. The PI role can be any investigator at that institution-therefore, anyone at the UI may apply and the funds are passed through the University of Iowa Prevention Research Center for Rural Health. Several topics are yet to be applied for including:

  • Understanding the needs of ovarian cancer survivors (SIP-24-001 Page 42-47); 
  • Survivorship care plans and mortality among adult cancer survivors SIP-24-002 Page 47-51); 
  • Gauging men’s reaction to relabeling of GG1 prostate cancer and understanding of pathology reports (SIP-24-004 Page 61-67); 
  • Understanding the impact of reducing social isolation and loneliness on health indices among cancer survivors (SIP-24-055 Page 67-72); 
  • Nutrition Obesity Policy Research and Evaluation Network (NOPREN) (SIP 24-006 Page 72-82); 
  • Physical Activity Policy and Evaluation Research Network (PAPREN) (SIP-24-007 Page 82-91); 
  • Arthritis Management and Wellbeing Research Network (AMWRN) (SIP-24-009 Page 102-111).

NIH releases the Centers of Excellence for Translational Research (CETR) request for applications.

The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to solicit applications from single institutions or a consortium of institutions to participate in the Centers for Excellence in Translational Research (CETR) program. This program will support multidisciplinary translational research Centers focused on generating, validating, and advancing medical countermeasures against bacteria or fungi listed in the NOFO with known and emerging resistance to current therapies.

AXA Call for Research Proposals Building Resilience against Systemic Cyber Risk

Description: This opportunity supports top-tier research projects on building resilience against systemic cyber risk that will inform private and public decision-making to build societal resilience. Work will require choices around specific cyber catastrophe scenarios (e.g., cyber-caused outages of critical infrastructure, mass malware events, cloud provider outages, impact of the quantum computing), scope of cascading and accumulating impact, considerations about specific industries or regions, assumptions on the origins and motivation of such shock scenarios (political actors, criminals, operational handling, financial gain).

CDC: Understanding Infant Feeding Preferences, Practices, and Outcomes for Mothers and other Parents with HIV in the United States

Description: The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to support a study to understand the infant feeding preferences, practices, and outcomes for people with HIV in the United States. Women and other people with HIV (PWH) in the United States have increasingly expressed interest in breastfeeding their infants, and federal guidelines have recently changed to support shared decision-making for infant feeding and to provide support for PWH opting to breastfeed or chestfeed.

NIH: Assessment of Climate at Institutions (ACt) Award (RC2 - Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

Description: The objective of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to solicit applications to conduct institutional climate assessments using validated survey instruments and to develop action plans for positive change in the recruitment, hiring, retention, and advancement of faculty, including those from groups underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral research (see NIH Interest in Diversity).
