Burkard named director of UI Health Care Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center

Mark Burkard has been named director of the University of Iowa Health Care Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. He will begin his new role on Oct. 1. Burkard also will serve as professor in the Department of Internal Medicine in the Carver College of Medicine.

Cambus receives $16M federal grant for electric buses, other improvements

The Federal Transit Administration has awarded the University of Iowa a $16.4 million grant for improvements to the Cambus system, including the purchase of six new battery-electric buses that will help the UI reach its sustainability goals. In addition, the funds will help provide updates to the Cambus Maintenance Facility.

Co-chairs, committee members named in College of Law dean search

Amanda Haertling Thein, associate provost for graduate and professional education and dean of the Graduate College, and Todd Pettys, the H. Blair and Joan V. White Chair in Civil Litigation, will serve as co-chairs of the search committee for the next dean of the College of Law. They will be joined by a group of eight faculty, staff, students, and alumni.

Skywalk from WCTC to Parking Ramp 3 to close until Aug. 1

The skywalk from West Campus Transportation Center to Parking Ramp 3 on the UI Health Care university campus and the sidewalk directly below will be closed from Thursday, July 11, until Thursday, Aug. 1. The university’s Iowa State Fair committee is seeking faculty, staff, and student volunteers to greet the thousands of visitors to the UI’s state fair booth Aug. 8—18 in Des Moines. Shifts include fair admission, a parking pass, and a T-shirt.

Learn more about local flora and fauna at BioBlitz event

You and your family have a chance to become researchers at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at the Ashton Prairie Living Laboratory as part of the annual BioBlitz event. Attendees will collect plants and animals, learn more about them, and have their findings be part of a multi-year research project on the site. The event is free, though registration is required.
