Join Together with the Band

"Thanks to our AYA oncology team we have been connected to an organization started by Roger Daltry of The Who. Please watch the whole 1:37 minute video which includes one of our consented patients and a bunch of staff several times throughout. This will be played at the opening of each WHO concert this year. 14 sites in the US." - David Dickens, MD, Clinical Professor of Pediatrics - Hematology-Oncology, Interim Director, Division of Hematology-Oncology.

Patient Comments from the Pediatric Specialty Clinic

"We love Dr. Pesce! She takes EXCELLENT care of our children and we cannot emphasize enough how important she has been to our family!"

"The entire team is awesome! Sadly we had to meet this team due to cancer diagnosis but we couldn't have asked for better staff and providers taking care of my son. We are very grateful for the entire team but especially Dr. Dickens, Dr. Claassen, Steve, Ana, Lori and Jason. I often tell people that the providers have always made us feel like we are the most important, they always answer all our questions, never seemed to be in a hurry, I'm sure they have many patients to attend but we never feel like that. When my son was sick, I had called earlier and Steve and Jason met us at the clinic door and walked us in, the nursing staff is very efficient and always prepared and ready for us. BEST PLACE TO TAKE OUR LOVED ONES!!!!"

Events

All interested faculty are invited to participate in a "research speed dating" event

August 12: 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Location TBD

The goal of this event would be to connect faculty with trainees (med students, residents, and/or first-year fellows) to establish opportunities for collaboration and mentorship. Participating faculty should ideally:

  • have a potential project/research question in mind that an interested trainee could easily step into.
  • propose a project which will culminate in a scholarly work which could be presented in poster format and/or published manuscript.
  • have project-appropriate experiences to mentor the trainee in data collection, statistical analysis, and poster/manuscript preparation

Please complete the Qualtrics survey by July 1, 2022 if interested in participating.

Contact Lyndsay Harshman with questions.

UI Health Care employees and their families donned purple pride shirts to march through the streets of downtown Iowa City during the recent Iowa City Pride Festival. Participants say it’s important for them to be visible in the community so that others may recognize that accessible health care is available to everyone.
